Camp Carbine

I'm not really into tactical assault camping, myself. If I'm not in bear country, then a .22 serves just fine. In bear, pot growing, or border country, then a .30-30, .44 mag, or .45-70 lever gun is about right.

I wish Ruger would have made the PC9 like the Mini and included a wood stock. I would really like that. I'll have to say that 9mm Luger coming out of a rifle barrel is pretty HOT ! !

Romanian WASR. It already has a crappy finish so I don't really care if it get's a few mark's on it. It's reliable and thirty round's of 7.62x39 is comforting.

From a practical standpoint, my Marlin 795 is a great camp carbine. Short, light, and more than enough for 90% of the issues you are apt to come across.

From a do-it-all-in-a-pinch standpoint, a plain ol ar15 without all the doodads would do well.

My pick, my Type 53 Mosin. Cheap, powerful, compact, and could simultaneously ignite a fire and signal for help with the muzzle blast:evil:

Still feel like I need to get another 30-30 lever, but I keep going back to the 45-70. Certainly NOT a camp carbine outside of bear/bull moose country, but really cool:p

In my opinion, a camp carbine is one that should be resistant to weather since every time I go camping it seems like it rains or is muddy. I wouldn't want to bring any of the pretty rifles in this thread along with me and subject them to that torture.

I have an old Norinko SKS that would fit the task perfectly. It is 100% reliable, has a chrome lined barrel and is fairly old and beat up so I'm not worried about scratches, nicks or a bit of surface rust. It is .30 cal too which would make a bigger hole up close than a 5.56--but let's not go there because I prefer 5.56 most of the time.
