If you fail Sex Ed. does that mean you can't have sex? No, it means you get a failing grade. At least with gun safty being a required course, even if they fail the class, they will have SOME experience with guns and know that a "high powered assault rifle" has less kenetic energy than your average fudd gun. A lot of the gun laws today are based on BS propogated by ignorance of basic gun mechanics. With compulsory education, folks would learn how stupid the statement "that thing that goes up"* truely is.
