Can a 1911 in 38 Super shoot 9mm if you change barrel and mag?

I asked that question before, and the consensus was that it is possible, but some smith work is necessary. I think I remember someone doing it with an RIA, with great results and at a resonable price.

The same mag(s) might also work. Try them before spending $. Technically the barrel is all that's required, but you may also need to tweak the extractor & the performance of the ejector might depend on the type. Sometimes regular extended models will work fine with 9mm, sometimes not.

steelyblue - You are correct it has been done with a RIA by an aquaintce of mine. I believe it was a little more in depth than just a bbl and mag swap, mainly fitting and the like, but yes it can be done.

uneasy_rider - If you would like, I can contact him and ask what all was entailed. I know he started off with a GI .38 super, he installed a beaver tail, commander hammer, trigger, barrel, sear, and your usual bolt ons. Also it was his first gunsmithing project to my knowledge.
