Can a mosin shoot 1 MOA?

Of course they can. There's two articles on Surplusrifle.com that show how to bed and shim and tune one, which vastly improves accuracy. Then factor that the bayonet helps with barrel harmonics, and then use ammo that's more consistent than surplus, and they can shoot quite well. Sometimes even one with a bad bore.

I have a couple that shoot far better than I can.

Thanks a lot for the responses, it seems like a good Finninsh Mosin can shoot 1 MOA but some of the others have a little more trouble. I'm really impressed with garandguy's mosin and shooting skills, and appreciate all the help.

You guys need to do your homework! The Finns already put in that effort.

OH please:eek: I've owned a couple of Finns they have no magical accuracy edge over any other milsurp rifle out there. You're just as likely to luck into a sub MOA Tula 91/30 as a Finn. Comparative accuracy in milsurp rifles is all in the condition; but pristine condition alone still isn't going to be enough to punch sub MOA groups on a regular basis with an as issued rifle.

Not all Finns are great shooters, but it's absolute fact that the Finns put new barrels on the receivers and spent more time and trouble accurizing their Mosins than the Soviets did. They also developed the highly accurate D-166 bullet and load for their Mosins. This is not a knock against Russian or Soviet rifles. I love them all. But it makes little sense to go to time and trouble to rebarrel and accurize a Soviet if you can just buy a Finn. My advice is to do basic shimming and maybe put on a Huber trigger. Beyond that just try different loads to see what it likes.

Also, in all my years I've never seen a sub MOA Tula 91/30. True sub MOA Mosins are extremely rare birds. A minty 28/30 with the right ammo might get you there. But sub MOA a very tough hurdle to get past. Even for modern rifles. It get's exponentially harder to tighten that group as you get to MOA and beyond.

I have a rearsenaled m44 that will IF you use the 180 gr wolf gold.

My gun store has 200 gr norma but I just can't bring myself to spend over twenty bucks for twenty rounds when I have a couple of thousand rounds of silver tip at less than 10 cents a round. Yea, I am a tightwad.:D
