I am interested in buying a Saiga rifle . I'm not too clear on the laws I would like to purchase a .223 with a 20 inch barrel . Does that mean I will have to do paper work for a hand gun ? Are the Saiga rifles considered a assult rifle if so are they regulated ? What about the SKS rifles are they regulated as pistols as far as the paper work is concerned ? It does make a difference I just can't get a straight answer from anyone in the shops I've been going in . I purchased a hand gun in July, which I think mean I have to wait a month but I thought it was considered a long gun HELP Thanks .

I have never seen a Saiga. But if it is a semi-auto like AR`s, then you will have to do the paper work just the way you did when you bought your handgun. I don`t understand what you are trying to explain here,

The wait for the paperwork to go through is around 1 to 2 weeks. If you said you had to wait a month for your handgun, maybe that was because your dealer had to order it. It took a month for me to get mine because Kimber had to make more on the model I wanted.

The wait for regulated long guns and hand guns is the same: 7 days.
Typically this ends up being 7 "working days", which ends up being 10 days.

The Saiga appears to be regulated according to this list at the MD State police:

"#27 Avtomat Kalashnikoc semi-automatic rifle in any format" might be the one that would get you. Not sure though, you'll have to check with a dealer.
