Can Anyone Identify This Gun?

You didn't have to set up that rig, I think that the Everclear on your counter would have taken the rust off...and put some hair on the pistol's chest at the same time.

Seriously, very nice work :) Can't wait to see the finished product!

Wow...the price for the restoration looks to be alot more than I had expected.

So far I figure I need:

Replacement magazine -- $55
Two recoil springs -- $5.85 apiece
Grip panels -- $65 (ebay)
Firing pin extension -- $26
Firing pin spring -- $3.85
Firing pin -- $23.40
and eventually, safety lever -- $64

Totals up to $247...looks like this remain a display piece for quite a while longer. All prices quoted above are Numrich unless otherwise noted. Anyone know of a cheaper place to find some of this stuff?

And actually, Wedge, whats in that bottle is something far worse than even everclear. It'll make a new man out of you...and he wants some too :)

Have you considered fabricating the grips yourself? They don't seem to be very complicated. At least, it would do until a nice original pair showed up.

Is the mag truly hopeless?

I'm not really an amazing woodworker...I could probably pull it off though. I'm giving it some thought...

As for the magazine...I think so. Electrolysis would be difficult due to the need to have a cathode inside the magazine to get at the interior rust. The spring will be brittled badly from the process, and likely wont function, and the magazine itself has enough rust that the metal seems very thin...I'm afraid Ill start cleaning it and end up with a bunch of holes. Seemed easier, in theory, to just buy another...but with the prices how I've seen them, I may have to reconsider and try to salvage it...

Ken,

If you will send me some better pictures of them, I might can reproduce them fairly easily. If I think I can do it, send the originals to me and I'll take a crack at it. I've already got some exotic wood that I haven't used up (cocobolo, tulipwood, etc.)

I'll be more than happy to give it a try. They certainly don't look very complicated.

Send me some detailed pictures. If I don't see any stumbling blocks, I'll pm you my address.

Thanks,
John

Very nice job. Even though it'll probably never be a shooter, it will be a nice display piece for your collection. Hey, write it up and submit it to shotgun news or somewhere with your pictures, maybe you can get paid for an article and cover some of your cost for new parts. "Zombie Nambu returns from the dead".

Awesome - never saw this thread before! Great pics, can't wait to see it completed. Isn't there anyone on this huge board with an extra Nambu part or two that could help the guy? I wish I did.
How are the custom grips coming alon? I haven't seen new grips on a pistol like this before, either.:D

Wow! That's an insane restoration, even if you go no further :)

When I saw your original photo, I figured that it's state then was about the best you'd ever see, and that attempts to de-rust would just break the gun into grit, dust, and shards.

Impressive!

p.s. Heh, it's post 777 for me -- a cool number :)

Pistol's on hold for a little while.

Tydephan, I appreciate your generous offer and I will see what I can do about getting you some pictures in the near future.

Short on funds right now...would like to see if I could make it a shooter again, but it's going to have to wait for a little while. Besides, I have my first AR build in the works.

Thanks for checking in, everyone. :)
