Model 36 J frame 38 special..Ser# on the butt..975J82..on the inside of the
cylinder..95875 an looks like G3..anyone know the approximate date it was made?

My listings don't find any serial number similar to what you posted. Your "J" frame stamping should be followed with a "-" and then a number. If so, what is it?

There's no "-" on it. it's stamped mod 36 on the yoke, i think that is what it's called, and the number 95875 is on the crane, with a larger G3 under that. It has all the other S&W markings...and on the butt is the 975J82. The cylinder has no movement in lockup. I was just wondering if it is too old for the FBI load..I have a mod 37 airweight, bought new about 1995 that could probably handle a limited amount of the 158gr LSWCHP. But what is the 95875 on the crane? Does that mean the cylinder may have been changed sometime? The last poster, and I am sorry I cannot remember the "handle", may have hit it on the head..1972 was awhile ago..Thanks guys.

Best bet is to call S&W 1800-331-0852 and ask them if +p is ok, Me thinks very limited amount would be ok but you would greatly increase wear. Stick to a good 158grLSWC with or with out hp running just below +p, gun will last for a long time and 38 spec is a good round it means practice and shot placement.

Thanks, Brian...you have been great help. Sorry I didn't remember your name in the earlier post.....Thanks again
