I noticed when I go to eject the spent cartridges in my Blackhawk, some simply fall out and others have to be ejected with the rod. Is their something that can be done to smooth the cylinders so all the cases fall out when the gun is pointed upwards?

Well, keep the chambers clean, dry and shoot clean ammo. With variations in brass it's pretty much impossible to make it drop out every time. A smoother chamber may or may not help. Might want to check with the knowlegable folks in the Gunsmithing forum.

If it's a higher pressure round like 44 Mag then the odds are working against you. If it's 45 Colt standard loads, .44 Spl or .38 Spl then you can get them to drop out pretty frequently.

I've had good luck polishing cylinder charge holes in the past, using a bore brush chucked into a variable speed drill. Wrap the brush with a cotton cleaning patch, that has been loaded up with Flitz or some other polishing compound.

Go slow, and don't over do it. Although Flitz is pretty mild and you'd really have to try hard to mess up. About 60 seconds of polishing is all I've ever need for all but the worst charge holes.

Good Luck...

Yes

Polishing chambers is a relatively easy thing to do. Just match the lapping compound and polishing brush (looks like a valve brush) to how rough your chambers are. Look in brownelles

I do the same as Joe. It works every time. They also clean up in half the time with a lot less effort when dead smooth.

JoeHatley,

Great suggestion. Just finished following your instructions. Clean/shined up pretty good. Thanks
