Honest Opinion, that is...:D

Its that time... I haven't bought a new handgun in a while... Been buying to many AK's... I have some Christmas money and want to pick up a nice handgun. I'm very much a Glock and 1911 guy but I want something different this time.

I'm excluding XD's, M&P's and the like as I would rather a Glock over those any day of the week. I want something a little more "not soooo newly mainstream"

I'm looking at these 3 handguns and wouldn't mind a little input, please chime in with which you would go with and why?

1- A Browning HP from CDNN ($689)

2- A CZ Handgun (PCR, P01, SP01??? not sure which I'd go with - would save some $ over the HP and its smaller/easier to conceal)

3- Sig SP2022 (If I go this route it is solely for the purpose of saving a bunch of money - $345 from Security Arms if I order by Jan 1st - and I've read pretty much all positive things about these guns).

I'm leaning towards the Browning or CZ just can't make my mind up. I know the CZ will be a better carry gun due to size but I primarily carry my G26 for concealed carry. Hummm just not sure. Im the one who asks the waiter 20 questions about the menu b4 I order

I have both the Browning Hi Power and the CZ75B. If I could only own one, it would be the Hi Power. The CZ is very nice. The Hi Power is exceptionally nice.

I like the Browning Hi-Power, fits my hand well, but I would suggest the CZ-75. My insurance agent has/had one in .40 and I got the chance to shoot it. Not too bad.

The only gun in the list that I have no experience with at all is the Sig SP2022. It does seem to be a lot like other SIGS though , so I guess I have kind of a baseline idea. The BHP however, I may be damned for saying so.. but I just dont like it. I wanted one for a long time, until I actually used a few. In it's stock form, the triggers on all of them I've tried have been stiff as all heck and just awful for an SAO gun. Mind you, I'm not talking about ones that have had work, as I've seen some excellent BHP triggers post-smithing. Also, it just doesn't sit well in my hand. Something about the BHP and I just don't get along in the geometry dept.

I recently bought an CZ SP-01 though. Excellent gun. Quality is very high inside and out. Accuracy (in my hands anyway) is probably the best of any 9mm I've ever fired. Heck, I think it even looks cool too. Best part is, you can get the SAO conversion done and have an amazing trigger to boot. My SP-01 is currently in the transition process to SAO, and I have nothing but the highest of expectations given how the gun has performed so far.

The nice thing about a Hi Power is that you never have to pay a gunsmith for that sort of work. I think the stock triggers are fine for a carry gun, but if you do want a lighter trigger you only have to knock out a couple of pins to change the mainspring and remove the mag disconnect and get a much lighter trigger.

This.

I'm just not a Sig guy so I wouldn't get it. The price is right, but it just doesn't do it for me.

I just bought a CZ SP01 Phantom. Feels great in the hand and trigger is pretty good, and is easily made great (from what I hear) with the purchase of a competition hammer and lighter hammer spring.

I'll let you know how it shoots after the weekend.

Browning Hi Power is an excellent choice.

You will be served well by any of them. It really comes down to what feels best in your hand.

The BHP needs some work right out of the box. Removal of the mag disconnect and some springs and you have a very nice SA trigger which IMHO is only beaten by a 1911 or a professional tuned SA gun.

The CZ75 series are great guns but they are hard to work on. They will also suffer from caming of the hammer and sear. It is present in almost all CZs. Some find it more bothering than others. It also is not something an non-professional can correct. The CZ is not as nicely finished internally and they have issues with slide stops in high round count guns. They do not fit my hands so I sold mine. I still own my CZ P01 which is a great gun but not any better than the Sig SP2022. There are tons of CZ variants so it is hard to speak to all of them.

The Sig SP2022 is a diamond in the rough. At less than $400 out the door it is hard to ignore. It is fat in the grip and the heal of the grip panel. The smallest grip panel which is what they ship with now is better than the Med or large but it is still not what I would call svelte. The DA trigger is long but very smooth. The SA is typical Sig SA.

I still can't figure out how to get the magazine safety disconnect out, friggin trigger pivot pin won't budge. Any tips?

My vote goes with the Hi-Power first with the CZ-75 right behind it. Have no experience with the SIG SP2022.

Ok, how about this? Is now the time to purchase the HP - at $689 NIB from CDNN, is this the best price you can and will find for a NIB HP? If this is the last time you'll see a price like this on a NIB HP then I might jump on the HP... I just love the way those CZ's look... And the price of that SP2022 so nice... haha...

Im going to pull the trigger on one of these very soon!

For a CCW the CZ PCR is a tough nut to crack, but if you like the 1911 platform and don't currently have one in 9mm... get one like an STI Trojan. Sweet! Ramped barrel will eat anything, virtually no recoil, utterly reliable.

Don't know if this will be the last time, but when they run out you'll be wanting one for that price. ;)

That's a very good price for a NIB Hi Power. Bud's and Jet's price is higher than that right now.

Not on the list but if you want a reliable, well-made pistol "not so newly mainstream", consider getting a nice, used Smith & Wesson Model 5906. You'll never regret buying one.
