Can I remove the "Lady Smith" engraving?

Can anyone advise me if the words "Lady Smith" can be in-filled or somehow polished out or otherwise refinished or resurfaced so that these words can be eliminated on the stainless steel Smith and Wesson 65LS .357 Magnum revolver? I have never had any such work like this performed and I don't even know if this is even feasible. If so, how much (on average) would something like this run?
Many thanks

That will distroy the value of the gun, in my opinion.

Just tell your macho friends that you brought along your wifes gun to try it out.

Hmm, sounds like it may not be a good idea. I was just wondering if something like that could be done without destroying the looks of the gun. Maybe I had better leave it....

I wouldn't deface the gun or worry about it. A .357 Magnum revolver is definitely NOT a wuss gun, no matter what's inscribed on it. And honestly, the Lady Smith revolvers are very nicely finished. The LS 36 is a beauty of a snubbie in blue with the wood grips. Like someone else said, I'm sure a lot of men are shooting and carrying the LS's that their wives or girlfriends bought but don't use anymore.

I would leave it. That said, I'm an engraver and have removed engraving before, and the LadySmith is engraved, not roll-stamped. It can be done, but its not easy.

Diamond engraving leaves a cut something like a ditch. Metal is not removed, just displaced. Buffing alone won't remove it. The first step is to burnish with a smooth burnishing tool to move some of the metal back into the cut. Then it needs to be sanded until all traces of the engraving are gone. Then it needs to be buffed and refinished by someone who knows how to match the original finish (a good knifemaker comes to mind).

Interesting. So it can be done after all. It seems like I've seen guns in the past at gun shows that had a "bruise" area where some engraving might have been and someone who didn't know what they were doing tried to remove the engraving but simply left a "bruised" area in the finish instead. This always looks horrible to me. Generally, I am in favor of leaving engraving alone (even if it is someone elses name that is engraved on it) UNLESS A HIGHLY SKILLED AND PROFESSIONAL GUNSMITH who knows what he is doing can do a masterful job of eliminating it.

I too have a LadySmith 65LS. With the rosewood laminated grips, it's hardly a 'little' gun. I couldn't find a replacement for my original 65, which I was going to outfit with Hogue finger grips anyway. I'm surprised they put "LadySmith" on such a large gripped gun. At any rate, like Jomax commented, it ain't a 'wuss' gun. Somehow, it doesn't bother me that the label is there. And, doesn't affect the velocity at all.......

Some men have to compensate. Thats why they buy the Desert Eagle. :neener:

Some men don't. So they buy the Lady Smith and don't worry about it.

Unless you already own the desert eagle and your truck has a 6 inch lift with Super Swampers on it. Then you might have other problems......:D

My wife carries a LadySmith, and I carry a regular M36 sometimes. Interestingly enough, my j-frame fits her better than her LadySmith fits her, and the LadySmith fits me better than it does her.

But she won't let me carry her "pretty gun".

Ladysmith

I don't know if this helps out any, but I always thought that the LS models simply meant that they came with a factory trigger job right out the gate. Sure it says "Ladysmith" on the side but it really is a beautiful gun, with a good trigger, better finish, and nice grips. Not meant to be a girly gun, just a sweet gun.

I agree with with leaving the engraving on it too. I think it is a nice looking gun even with the "Lady Smith" on it. My mother carries one of those. Hers is in stainless steel. I hope one day she will pass it down to me.

I'd be tempted to just put a set of pink grips on it. :)

She'll still crack an engine block-- and that is more than I can say about my Glock 19.

Just another use for duct tape ;) Slap a little over the writing and you get your man card back.

Hmm, that's interesting, I wonder how much just to have S & W just ship me a smooth, replacement side plate only.

I wouldn't try to have it ground out. If it's worth it to you to have it replaced, that's fine, but to me the Ladysmith guns are the best S&W's you'll find outside of the Performance Center.

My CCW gun is a 3913 Ladysmith that proudly wears the logo. I've had it for going on a decade now, and nobody has ever teased me about it. On the contrary, the response from all who have seen or shot it (including some genuine tough guys) has been "that is a nice gun."

I don't think the bad guy is going to look at this and care if it says "Lady Smith" or not.

it is the gun that is the lady, not the guy holding it. Leave the logo there.

Not so sure of your orientation eh? :D Who care or can see what it says on the gun?
