Can I legally take any gun with me when I go to visit my sister in Chicago? If not a handgun, perhaps a shotgun or rifle? I'm from Michigan. I'll be staying overnight in Chicago, then driving back home.

I've read the laws posted at packing.org, but I'm still confused.

Thanks.

I'm not sure how it would apply in the case of your visit, but Volkman-McClure states that if you're going from a jurisdiction that allows ownership and possession to a jurisdiction that allows same, through a jurisdiction that does not, the jurisdiction that does not allow same has to eat crow. Federal Law. I'm not sure how it works when the destination is the same as point of departure, with stopovers, etc...

I don't know the Chicago laws, but I believe the trip would be viewed as two trips, the first being the trip from Michigan to Chicago, and the second trip being the return the next day. I believe Volkman-McClure applies more to a person who is just passing through without stopping, ie from Michigan to some other part if Illinois.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IF you are within Chicago city limits and you have any firearm you are asking for lots of problems....years of problems. All firearms are banned within the Serfdom of Lord Daley and all serf's who bring firestick's into the mighty lord's kingdom are to be flogged around the buttocks until dead.

But seriously, leave the gear at home if you are going into *Chicago city limits*, if you're not, and you' be staying in the much nicer suburbs (where I am) you're safe from the evil Lord Daley.

Spend the night in a motel outside Chicago to give you a valid alibi for FOPA (as well as save you from having to buy new rims when they get stolen from in front of Sis's building at night).
