I have been reading alot, and I am trying to find the right answer to the question:

For private sales, what is the age requirements? I know at a gun store its 18/21 but some people tell me in a private sale its 16/18 (long guns/handguns)

What is the actual rule?

Also, another quick one:

Do ranges in general prohibit FMJ rounds or are they ok in general?

Federal law is 18yo for long gun and 21yo for all other firearms (including handguns, pistol grip only shotguns, and receivers).

State law varies.

Full metal jacket = FMJ and AFAIK they are fine. Some places don't allow steel ammo. Wolf 7.62x39 FMJ is steel (not talking just the casing here) and I can't shoot it at the indoor range but it's fine at the outdoor range.

The indoor range also prohibits the use of shot. Slugs only.

As regards a range. It is ALWAYS RANGE RULES. If in any doubt ASK. Some ranges do not have a backstop suitable for FMJ.

Some do, but steel or tomboc (sp) jacket can spark in the bullet catchers, other it wears out the backstop quicker. I know many indoor ranges where I lived would allow pistol, full lead bullets from lever actions, and .22 rilfes only.
