Ok here is my situation, my dad and I were planning on attending a gun show this weekend but due to circumstances I can go and he can't. He had planed on selling a handgun there, would it be legal for me to sell it there for him? I am 18 years old and live in Missouri. I know that there is a federal law prohibiting the sale of transfer of handguns to minors under the age of 18 and regulations prohibiting people under the age of 21 from BUYING handguns but what about SELLING? Under Missouri law since I am in the National Guard the age limit for obtaining a CCW permit is lowered to 18, so I would assume that possession of a handgun by someone between 18 and 21 would be kosher but what about selling one?

In Az. we can buy, sell, or carry handguns privately at age 18 yrs., just not through an FFL. As for the laws in your state, you'll need to contact your state LE officials for a better answer, maybe.

Is the gun show in Missouri?
He could sell the handgun at a gun show out of state - it would just have to go through an FFL for transfer. Although, some state laws, such as Washington, prohibit handgun possession (for the most part) by persons <21.

But instead of making assumptions or dealing with possible alternate situations, let's get some facts.

I posted the facts, Frank. Just because it may not fit his exact situation does not mean that another reader who is in a similar situation and read this thread due to the title won't be enlightened by it.

That's the point. Let's (1) clarify what the OP's exact situation is; and (2) stick to that.

Bringing in other possible situations muddles things and is off topic.

Let's stick to the OP's question, but that needs clarification. We need to know where the gun show is.

I am assuming the gun show is in MS. If it is not then the sell would have to be done via an FFL in the state you sell it.
You can as far as my quick search shows sell the gun but that is opinion.
I would call the organizer of the show and ask what their policy of private sales are? Explain everything to them about the sell you are trying to do. If they say yes you can then you are covered.
I also recommend you require a MS drivers license from the buyer to be sure he is a MS resident and also require, as I do in WA, a state concealed carry permit only for ensuring the person is not a looney toon.

Why would you assume that the show is in MS when he is quoting MO law?

the Fed law allows sales to a "contiguous state". So if it's only crossing ONE state line, it's still ok. The FFL'S have a different colored form 4473 for such sales, you know. Many dealers have never heard of this, but a short search on Google will turn them up for you.
