Can we all please take a deep breath and stop yammering about AWBs?

Like someone mentioned here before, we have so much more information now due to the web, I too didn't even know the 94' AWB had been passed, I was 22 then and not even sure I knew what the internet was.

The facts are that nothing which had been in the 1994 ban which sunsetted in 2004 would have prevented what happened at Sandy Hook.

If anything it shows the total hypocrisy of the liberal gun control argument.

Putting Joe Baby in charge of the commission to investigate the issue pretty much guarantees it's going to be a throwaway- He's in no way presidential in 2016. And he is deniable if he can't do what that base wants.

Instead of worrying about what to hoard in case something might happen it's better to take a deep breath and remember that this is Christmas.

The 112th Congress will close and the 113th Congress won't start until January 3rd. Any bill introduced before Jan 3rd will DIE because there is no way to get it through commitees and to a vote before then, since the House is not in session. It would take an emergency session. The Senate is still working but any new bill would have to pass both House and Senate.

Yeah, there I go injecting facts into a good old panic and rumor mill.

So we all know we had darned well better prepare for a more onorous attack heading our way, because the Power in charge knows full well what worked and what did not last time around and I assure you they are not resting and taking a deep breath to celebrate a Saturnalia Miracle. Or maybe they are. Maybe Fast and Furious was just a well thought out exercise of seeing how low to fly under the radar. You notice many heads rolling on that one did you? I didn't see any rats give up the ship. I saw re-election and now (knuckling aside a faux tear) renewed resolve w/ F&F forgotten by everyone. Some people's hypocrisy, not to mention hubris, knows no bounds, to coin a phrase

Enjoy the Holiday to be sure. :D

But do plan ahead because I truly don't think we want to imagine the worst case scenario that late January will bring us. Roll into one big ball, tax revenue generation, UN Treaty written as US Law, AWB, no FTF sales, limitation of numbers and/or new tax as licensed collectors, more ATF inspectors, ammunition limits,... if you can think of it, so will the opposition, all common sense... for the children, with no willingness to compromise or to back off. :scrutiny:

But be sure to enjoy your remaining few freedoms while they last and take a week or two off while others work out the issue. Better to give than to receive eh? ;)

Stay safe, take a deep breath. Relax. Enjoy.

Why should we step back, the politicians aren't. They started it, I'm not going to sit here and wait for it to happen without screaming holy hell about it.
How much you want to bet, they will ban firearms and never do a damn thing about the mental health problems in this country or any other factors that lead up to these mass shootings. People like Mike Bloomberg and Diane Fienstein need it shouted loud and hard that we arn't going down quietly.

Step back? Not now, not ever.

I'm a sport shooter, not some crazy mass murderer, leave my friggin guns alone!

Can we all please take a deep breath and stop yammering about AWBs?

Probably not, it just happens to be the biggest news in the firearms business right now, the .gov has made it clear they are going to do something significant, and it's probably going to happen very soon, perhaps 1st Qtr. 2013.

Bury your elected officials in e-mails and letters. Put it all out there.

Call them. Politely express your concerns that the 2A not be compromised for the acts of a monster. Remind them that the 94 AWB didn't prevent Columbine and that the duplicate of that law presently on the book in CT did nothing to stop the tragedy at Sandy Hook elementary.

Join the NRA. Or the GOA. Or the JFPO. Or all of them. Give a gift membership to a gun-owning friend who is strapped for money.

Don't stop writing letters or sending emails.

Bury them.

I feel like the public has needed a reason to get thrie head out of their  and get themselves prepared. People put it off too long, the truth is the more rifles that are in the hands of civilians is just more weapons that will be available to civilians if the time comes and they are needed. Any that are left in the system if a law is passed is just more that will be destroyed or hidden away.

I am glad everybody rushed out there and picked up all the available weapons.

PLUS if they never pass a law then just think of how many will be available to us for CHEAP! Might even be like the AK's of old :D

Gov. Cuomo on Fred Dicker show 12/20/2012 Assault rifles;

Cuomo floated the idea of confiscation or possibly a mandatory buy-back program, or heightened permitting, but re-stated his belief that "the real answer here is federal."

Well, if you really want to get worked up into a lather, then watch Piers Morgan on CNN. He makes you want to throw a bowling ball at the flat screen with his extremely rude and insulting remarks against 2A advocates.

Like I said in another post.

Quote:

Aw hell,

Forget all this assault gun crap.

I still got my trusty Cimarron Model 1873 rifle and Model P revolver.

Lets go back to the Old West days where accuracy and marksmanship ruled and not guns that have you spraying lead all over the place.

Of course, then people might start complaining of "assault" lever action rifles and "assault" single action revolvers. :p

The fever pitch lately is almost too much to bear. I've hardly set foot on any forums...I did buy a lower for my son when he gets older and a few more pmags a few days ago.

In fact, today I went and shot groups with some revolvers. Yeah, I'm a renaissance man like that.

From a similar Congress that passed the wildly unpopular:

Gays in the military
Obamacare
Appointment of 2 liberal Justices

And from a nation that blindly re-elects terrible leaders...

I personally am tired of being told not to worry about it...

You folks should take a breather. The reality is that they really don't want to propose anti gun legislation. Why? Because in one month the fervor will stop. The soccer moms will not be riled up like they were. But we will be in full campaign mode. In other words the politicians know that the gun owners will be there to greet them in the next election, where the others wont even show up to vote. They know we are intense in our beliefs because they are not stupid.

I strongly disagree with the OP. Yammering is exactly what we should be doing right now. They want us to be complacent. They want us to compromise, to be off guard, to not expect it. The more we talk and write about our views and concerns, the more light we shed on the antis plans.

The antis have the internet too. The tide raises all ships. Just because shooters are more connected than ever, doesn't mean the antis are still using 1994 methods. They can use the internet to achieve their ends just as well as we can, if not better. Don't even think that an AWB can't happen again. They're waiting for you to get distracted and complacent.

The only thing that the antis learned from 94 is that they need to modify their strategy. The desire for an AWB never, ever went away.

The reality is that they really don't want to propose anti gun legislation.
You sir/ma'am do not have a firm grasp of reality if you think that. Their desire for gun control burns hotter than ever. I'll repeat, the only thing they learned from the 94 backlash is that they need to tweak their strategy. They learned what works and what doesn't. The desire is still there, probably more than ever before. Don't ever forget that.

This is my take on all the yammering about AWB:

- Firearms manufacturers and components manufacturers are going to have a very merry Christmas from increased sales. Many may go back to 24/7 production operation to keep up with the demands. This will increase work hours and perhaps create more jobs.

- Firearms/components wholesalers/retailers will also have a very merry Christmas from increased sales. New inventory they will receive will probably be sold (or already spoken for) very quickly.

- Gun show vendors and private parties will be able to sell more stuff that were overpriced before from panic buying and may also have a very merry Christmas and a new year from increased sales.

- More revenue for firearms industry and concern over AWB talk will increase contributions/donations/memberships for the NRA and other pro-2A organizations (already happening) to increase lobbying efforts in Washington and at state capitols.

- Endless AWB coverage by the media will bring 2A supporters together and forge a stronger support for pro-2A politicians (already happening).

- Even the moderates and liberals at work may be saddened by the shootings but they are more concerned about keeping their lives/families protected from robbers/home invaders from increased rate of crime and buying more guns and getting CCW. Some are even asking us conservatives to teach them to shoot!

So, yammer away!

Yes, lets just ignore it...pretend we're powerless to stop it....quit raising awareness....that's the ticket to victory, I'm sure of it!!!

I am not going to stop "yammering". At least for now we still have the 1st Amendment, so I will speak my peace. However, I have been yammering to my elected officials, and have made it very clear that if the support ANY kind of new gun control measures that I will not be voting for them in the next election, and will do everything in my power to make sure my friends and family don't vote for them.

The only way we have to influence politicians is to SCARE them about ending their lucrative political careers, no matter the party.

While I understand where the O.P. is coming from the anti-gunners are well-organized and well-funded. Their strategy will be to ram AWB through Congress while emotions are high and ignore any calm, logical debate.

Make no mistake that the so-called "panic" buying is not being missed by the Libs. The Internet has quickly alerted gun owners and is leading to quicker responses to stop the Libs in their tracks. The large number of gun sales is making it very clear Americans love their guns and it will be impossible to take all of them.

Obama wants to take your guns. There's no way to explain around that. Tell him no. Tell them all no. No compromises. No agreements. No new "sensible gun safety" laws that will do nothing other than disarm law abiding citizens and deprive them of their individual Constitutional 2nd amendment rights. NO.
