Can you convert M1A mags to AR-10 mags?

I have heard of people doing it but is it really possible to convert M1A/M14 mags to Armalite AR-10 mags. If so how? Could I do it myself, will Armalite convert them? What kind of tools would I need? Please some help for an AR nube and yes I have been converted to the AR platform

I know that was Armalite's only source of civilian-legal 20rd mags for a while, so I'm sure it can be done.

I would ask WHY, though. Armalite is selling new mags that are a much better design than converted mags, for a fairly reasonable price. And M1A mags are not exactly cheap; quality M1A mags can be sold for almost as much as the new AR-10 mags cost.

Basically, I can get M1A mags for 25$ each. Made by CMI to GI spec as oppose to 40-50$ for the AR-10 mags and I already have some M1A mags.

You could do it buy buying the Armalite follower and plunger and cutting a notch in the side of the mag for the mag catch. And when you're done, you'd have a first generation AR10 mag that is probably only marginally cheaper than buying from Armalite.

Armalite has second generation mags that cannot be made by converting M1A mags, which solve some of the issues associate with the spring plunger bolt hold open design

The 2nd generation AR10 mags are made by CMI and they are excellent.

There is no need to butcher any more USGI M14 mags.

Yes, you can. No, it's not feasible.

The first gen AR-10 mags are simply modified M-14 mags, and the design is flawed. The spring-loaded bolt hold open plunger creates extra friction and causes the follower to bind. The result is lots of feeding problems.

The gen II mags are set up like Ar-15 mags, with a channel in the rear for the bolt hold open tab. They work beautifully (and are 25 round). At $57 each, you can't stock up like you would with AR-15 mags, but I find 4 of them to be sufficient.

I would if I knew where on the net they had such a deal. Could you please tell me where becuse I looked on their sight and couldn't find anything and the cheapest I have been able to fine gen II mags is 35$ each

very easy to convert m14 mags for AR10. just cut a notch in the side for the AR style mag catch. M14 mags can be found very cheap at sportsmansguide.com
