Can you have too many firearms? (non-2nd)

Too many? Nah.

Of course, you have to look at my background--the ATF should handle my taxes, not the IRS.
Last time I moved, the humidors took one trip (I was the only person in the car), the guns took three trips, and the liqour cabinet took two trips.

If I had anything that I hadn't shot/smoked/drank in a couple of years, then I might decide it was 'too much', but as long as you actually pay attention to all of them equally, they aren't excessive.

OK, I'm migrating back towards a neutral stance again. However, every time I look at a toy to buy, I'm probably going to ask myself "Are you willing to move this?"... :scrutiny:

It was probably from the "power move" we just completed. I was exhausted from moving and hauling/lifting all the goodies I own.

If you search all of the pictures I've posted, you'll see I have all the accessories for each rifle. I fortunately had all of these accessories (minus the magazines and bayonets) in ammo cans and they were moved with everything else.

I got some nervous giggles from the guys helping me load up the moving truck. :uhoh: However, the guys that helped me unload are in the Army. They were excited and wanted me to go shooting with them. :D

Like the people in the military have learned, Man, ammo is ^&%$#%!@ heavy!

I've seen people with so many guns, that if they took care of them all like they were supposed to, it would be a full-time 9 to 5 job just to properly clean all of them every week.

Too many guns? No but THR ought to start a legal fee collection point for those who.
1. Are THR and own vast quantities of guns.
2. Get harassed and jailed because of it.
3. You can easily make the news as the bad guy owning alot of firearms and the next thing you know you are arrested.
4. Mr. Public thinks you are nuts for doing so.

The way I look at it you can never have too many...I could see you making a minimum you should have

Handguns
1. .45 1911... at least one of these
2. 9mm
3. 357mag
4. 44mag
5. 40/357sig this one is not needed but I like it
6. a small pocket gun like a .25/.32
7/8. at least 2 .22's

Rifles
1/2. I think 2 ar's or at least 2 different uppers one longer range 20" barrel or longer and one close combat 16" barrel.
3. 12 gauge shotgun
4. .308 bolt action
5. .308 semi-auto (I'll take a springfield)
6. a lever action .357/.44mag these are just fun.
7. a .22 good for teaching and plincking cheap.
This is not counting if you hunt, if so add at least 3 or more rifles to the list.

I don't think that there is such a thing as too MANY or too LITTLE in firearms or ammunition. (I would want to have enough ammo on hand though for the gun or guns that I owned!)

I think that it depends on the 'individual' and his or her taste in such matters.

If the collection or ITEM OWNS YOU instead of you owning IT - it may be too much but that would not only go for firearms - it could go for any object, tool, hobby, article or THING for your daily living.

I am not a 'collector' of firearms and I don't own what some guys/gals call safe queens.

I shoot what I own.

I buy quality over quantity.

The most that I ever owned in my OWN firearms was about 13 guns or so.

I am a firm believer in LESS is more in many things.

I believe in the KISS method - old military saying... keep it simple stupid. That was my late husband's line too.

I have scaled down some and it was not because I 'had to'. It was a personal decision for me in my firearms, books, other tools, clothing, art, music collection, etc.

I figure whatever trips your trigger in any object, tool, firearm, etc. is UP to YOU and not what 'others' think that you should own or shoot - like a keep up with the neighbor's lifestyle.

When I moved after 30 plus years in the same house that I built with my late husband... it was what would FIT in my vehicle and in my former Coleman pop up camper. The carefully selected special books/music, firearms, ammunition, etc. made it out here. Everything was carefully selected even though we had scaled down SOME all along before his cancer and death back east.

I plan on going to less calibers too.

I define my uses, and try to aquire a gun fill each "niche" (Usually but not always in that order:scrutiny:). For my situation, I have about a dozen guns that I can articulate (read: rationalize) a clear reason for owning. I also have a mil-surp collection that I own/shoot/restore purely for fun -- mentally, I separate these from my "modern" guns.

For me, my needs include HD, Urban SD, Wilderness SD, Skeet/Trap, IPSC, SHTF/Paranoia and introducing new shooters (this last goal is vital if we want to keep being allowed to accomplish the others!!). I also desire the ability to hunt anything in North America, though I don't actually do this (yet).

I'd like to add a good SHTF rifle, probably M1A, but for the moment the "go-to" guns are either the levers or the 30-06. I guess my sense of paranoia is even more anemic than my wallet. I'd also like to add a couple of .22's, so that I've got a .22 with a similar technique of shooting to each "big" gun.

Unless I take up a specialized sport, any new guns I buy will either replace something existing, or I'll have to admit to myself that there is no practical justification for them :D.

Rationalization aside, if you've got a good centerfire rifle, a 22, a shotgun, and a handgun in 38/9mm on up, there's nothing in North America that buying another gun will do for you that moderate competence with your existing arms wouldn't allow. Beyond that, they stop being tools and start being toys. Is it possible to have too many toys? I don't think so, but I TRY not to convince myself that they are anything else.

My "niches" (and current occupants):

Rifles
Bear defense (Guide Gun in 45-70)
Big-game rifle (Rem 700, 30-06)
Varmint rifle (Tikka T3, .223)
Trunk rifle (Beat-up old winchester 1894)
Practice/Newbie rifle (10-22)

Handguns
Primary carry gun (3.5" 1911)
Backup/ankle carry gun (snubbie 38)
IPSC gun (5" 1911)
Woods sidearm (Blackhawk in 45 Colt -- pretending to be a 44 mag)
Practice/Newbie automatic (Ruger 22/45)
Practice/Newbie revolver (Smith airweight snubbie .22)

Shotguns
Trap/Hunting/Practice (Winchester 1300 Black Shadow)
HD/Skeet (Winchester 1300 Defender)
