Hi everyone...
First off, the pic of the rifle that started off this thread is an UltraLite-50 that's been photoshopped to add that 'magazine' to it.
(
www.ultralite50.com) Probably something Oleg did for fun...
As to the UltraMag50... I wrote that early review for my own UM50 I bought back in 2003. (#0004)
The early brakes were a smaller diameter 12 port design that isn't as effective as the latest large diameter 8 port model.
The only problem I found with the magazine was that the screws would loosen and the latch would unlatch IF it wasn't locked into place first.
As stated in the review, I fixed the screw problem with some loc-tite and the latch was simply learning how to work it properly... Both of these issues were likely not found in subsequent rifles produced by Walter.
Too, the scope rail was updated to include that little 'step' at the rear that facilited the installation of iron sights. A nice touch for the new guns.
I did shoot the UM-50 with the leupold scope, but haven't got around to updating the report... the gun is capable of sub MOA groups at 100yds with a scope and carefull trigger control. With a better trigger, it would probably shoot even tighter. (or somebody more experienced that me too!)
I already have two other long range guns (Serbu BFG50s), so the UM-50, and UL-50 (M48 spotter) are just fun 400 yd 'plinkers' to me...
If anyone's in the SoCal or PHX, AZ area and wants to try them out (or any of my Serbus (DTC or BMG) or M2HB as well... ) let me know and we'll work out a time/place.
