Took my S&W M41 .22 LR pistol to the range today with two magazines. One magazine loaded fine. The other would only take two rounds when the follower stopped. OK, it hadn't been used in over a year so I oiled it well and worked the follower button all the way down. Tried to load ammo again and it stopped after two rounds. Can you guess what the problem was? See the postscript below for answer.

Good shooting and be safe.

ps: Did you guess the cause? If so, go to the head of the class. In my 66+ years this is the first time I have ever seen it happen.

Ans: A small Allen wrench had worked it's way into the long slit in M41 mag and was hidden inside the magazine, blocking the follower from moving lower when held in position for loading rounds. I removed the Allen wrench and voila', no more problem. Apparently I was holding the mag in a different position when moving the follower button all the way down after oiling it.

Was that an Allen wrench, or a "mini-MONKEY wrench"? HAHA!

One of the local gun shops had a "Half-price sale" on the remainder of their high-capacity pistol and rifle mags, just before the cut-off date for the California (10-round only) date. For some reason, they had put NEW, in the shrink-package, S & W model 41 mags into the "sale" bin! I pulled out all of them (6), and didn't say a thing about them being 10-rounders as I paid for them!

They probably thought they were 12rounders as I think some of the 422/622 series guns which take the same mags as their expensive ancestor came with a 12 round mag.
