Canada goes all in - Trudeau announces ban on handgun sales, transfers

Yeah, no question this sucks. And, as noted above, most Canadians did not voted for this guy. In my experience as a Canadian handgun owner since the mid-1980s, most Canadians are pretty neutral about handguns, and a significant portion are quite interested when they find out I’m an owner. But, when the Minister responsible for this bill stated with a straight face that this law did not target legal gun owners most Canadians took that at face value since they weren’t affected. Of course, a new law that bans the sale of legal handguns to legal owners specifically targets them.

I’m closer to the end of my shooting days than I am to their beginning, and my collection is in pretty good shape, especially given what I’ve picked up since this was announced earlier this Spring, but I feel bad for those just trying to get into handgun ownership.

mope540: Exactly.

The same people who would abolish the 2nd Amendment are the same Huge herd of cowards who said nothing about mass looting/rioting/burning in many cities in 2020.

And of course police were seldom given the authority to confront them. This scenario began years ago during marches in the Portland- Seattle axis of tolerated "party member" cadres, and those cities were like a small lab test for the US overall..

Marxism is evil and moves around like a virus, sooner or later Canada was bound to succomb to it too since they share our border.

It's definitely strange times up here now. My AR's are classified 'prohibited' now and I can't take them anywhere but still can have possession of them pending 'buy back / confiscation ' proceedings.
Now the handgun issue. The Trudeau government is trying to make it a provincial/ municipal decision to ban handguns and its not going well. Some of the western provinces have openly stated they're not going to support these initiatives.
We have a new Conservative Party leader named Pierre Poilievre now and he's very popular. Hopefully we can defeat the Liberals in the next election. If we dont, we'll have to live by the outcome of a democratic society and try harder next time. The Liberals have tried these tactics before and it resulted in even the most fervent antis voting against them because they see their privacy and civil rights all going away in the name of gun control. Hopefully history will repeat itself.
As it stands now, I'm allowed to keep possession of my handguns and take them to the range etc... but I can't sell them or transfer them to another person.

As Joe noted, fluctuations seem more rapid and pronounced in Canada and the UK than in the USA. We do have some buffers that sometimes seem like they get in the way, but more often act to save us from the corruption and lawlessness of the large metro areas.

If you can’t sell or transfer handguns between individuals in Canada then what can you do with them?

Is this specific to sale or transfer in Canada or can an individual who is Canadian sell a revolver to outside of the country, such as the USA?

I ask this as I know someone in Canada I would like to purchase if he will someday sell it to me. But maybe now that will never be a possibility.

For now, we can continue to use them as before, just not sell them or buy any new ones. We can, apparently, sell to “exempt businesses” but I don’t know what that means yet. I’m hoping that once I die (in the far distant future of course!) my Estate will be able to sell my handguns to a Dealer who’s able to export them.

IIRC Portland and Seattle spared no expense going after anyone that dared to defend themselves against these mobs in order to make cases against the right to self defense

Only a fool relies on elections to preserve their rights. Personally, I've had enough of the vote harder mentality.

Western Canada would be better off leaving and joining the US or maybe Russia.

I don't know how the Canadian system work that the Prime Minister can just say "here is what I am going to do" and it is done. I assume Parliament plays some roles in this? I have a Canadian friend who works with me. I told her of my visits to Canada years ago and of the lovely scenery and friendly people. She said that the government has become so socialist that the whole atmosphere has changed.
