The police chief in Waterbury, Conn., just a few miles from Newtown, has halted permits for gun shows, saying he was concerned about firearms changing hands that might one day be used in a mass shooting.

Permits not issued, Venues not allowing Gun Show's, Gun Shows being restricted from selling "Assault Rifles and Magazines" by local authorities, and just any other way they can assualt 2nd amendment quaranteed rights.

See how easy it is to pee on the Bill of Rights . One way or another the battle will continue from every direction possible.

I think you will find that this is a regional thing. The Northeast in general (and of course with exceptions) is leftist in its worldview. On the other hand in Tucson, AZ a gun show is going “great guns” (pardon the pun) this weekend. Same is true in other parts of the country that still enjoy freedom.

It would be interesting (but unlikely) if the show promoters got together and took some police chiefs and other local authorities to court and made them prove that gun shows are a more likely venue for criminals to obtain arms then straw buyers at retail outlets or the stolen gun black market. On a number of occasions the BATF&E have admitted that gun traces indicate that gun shows are a very minor factor as a weapons source for criminals.

I read that some dealers are skipping gun shows in January for the best reason..... they've sold so many guns in the past month that they don't have enough to fill a GS table.

I am quite sure you are correct , at least for now .

What it does show me however is how easily gun owners can be discriminated against . Something sold at the show might do future harm to a child, could be cause to cancel a plumbing and bath show, but that doesn't happen.
It goes back to blaming the product for the action and does nothing to prevent tragedy. It is the mentality that is at the core of the battle to maintain the right of possession without infringment.

Regional now perhaps, but who can say what obsticals will be thrown in our path in days to come.

I rarely go to gun shows anymore...only now and then to be reminded of why I don't go to gun shows anymore :)

But there are many who like to go, so they shouldn't be banned. And this brings up a good point.

Remember Columbine? The hoopla being made back then wasn't so much about "assault" weapons, it was about gun show "loopholes". Well, they cracked down on all the loopholes, and see what happened? Several more school or mass shootings, including one of the worst in history. The bans don't help, do they? But the liberals will present a new something to ban with every new tragedy.

And in 50 years, pretty much everything will be banned.

It's time we started talking about interstate trade and that local and state governments do not have the right to set ANY restrictions upon them (only the federal government) as long as they are lawful.

This is about them telling you, what you can or can not purchase "Freedon of trade" is what is happening here, it is time to sue their butts on this and put them in their place they will lose in court.

The ACLU should be brought in on this.

I went to 2 GunShows this weekend in Ohio and WV. I saw some price gouging (.22 Blazers for $6.00 per 50)but also saw some decent deals considering the current market. AR platform guns were available - average price was $1,800 for $800 AR guns. The number of people attending was up but far from standing room only and more women in attendence. Ammo was available but pricey .223 average $14.00 per 20 and the going price for steel cased 7.62 x 39 was $10.00 per 20.

When thugs disguised as politicians and police were tossing blacks out of quality schools, it affected ALL American's. Not just the ones who attended those schools.

I think you misunderstood the point I was trying to make. In those states that are governed by leftists with an anti-gun bias, gun show promoters are being coerced to block sales of semi-automatic /look-a-like military rifles and large capacity magazines on the pretext that they’re shows are likely to be a conduit to criminal elements or madmen. In other cases they are denied permits to hold a show at all for the same reason.

In states where they follow the law and honor the U.S. Constitution (and sometimes they’re own state constitution as well) gun shows are obviously going forward with little or no official harassment. Note the link I posted in post #4.

If you think that I, in any way or form, support the outrageous conduct of the officials who are suppressing gun shows in any area you are wrong. My suggested solution was (and is) to haul them into court and demand that they prove their allegations, and if they can’t demand to be compensated for losses.
