In that case, what do you suggest? Again, I write my congressman about these very things. I have even gone as far as questioning him on how he would like to live under such circumstances. Lucky for me we are on the same page. We have lots of work to do. I can tell you if any such camera winds up in my neck of the woods it won't be there long. People around my parts don't like being watched openly like that.
As far as the UK having 25% of the worlds surveillance cameras, "what's your point?" Do you have any idea how many are in London alone?
I do! I do! Well...sort of. I just looked at this the other day when the subject of surveillance cameras came up. It's about a million or so. Or maybe it's only 8,000. Kinda depends on what you read.
According to The Telegraph (10 July 2013):
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/technolo...ry-11-people-in-Britain-says-CCTV-survey.html
The British Security Industry Authority (BSIA) estimated there are up to 5.9 million closed-circuit television cameras in the country, including 750,000 in “sensitive locations” such as schools, hospitals and care homes.
The survey’s maximum estimate works out at one for every 11 people in the UK, although the BSIA said the most likely figure was 4.9 million cameras in total, or one for every 14 people.
Which is interesting, because I found links I looked at the other day which were a few years older (2009) and it claimed virtually the same number:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk/8159141.stm
http://singularityhub.com/2009/09/0...e-fails-only-1-crime-solved-per-1000-cameras/
This comes as a major blow to the UK police who spent £500 million between 1996 and 2006 installing 4 million cameras nationwide, with 1 million in London alone.
And an even older link (2006) still claims virtually the same number:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk/6108496.stm
There are up to 4.2m CCTV cameras in Britain - about one for every 14 people.
So what all this is telling me is that for the 7 year spread across these articles, the number of surveillance cameras has not increased at all. Things that make you say "hmmm...".
How accurate are these numbers? I dunno...here' are a couple links on the matter:
