I to just bought a "shark" cant wait until I get it so I can compare it with my cz83,and my po7

Ponch: let me know when you get it as to whether it has an adj rear sight. I'd like to get one but do need the adjustable capability due to eye issues.

It sucks here in NY with the 10 round mag law. CZs are hard to come by and the clones are nonexistent.

I can't find anything with a NYS compliant 10-round magazine.

.Don't some of the CZ 10 rnd mags fit the Canik? If so I wonder if you could order the gun and have them replace the mag with a 10 rounder? I mean it is the magazine that's illegal right? Then there is the 45acp. if you don't mind 45acp the Witness has 10rnd 45acp's.

I know it sucks in NY, don't know how you guys do it.

Yes it is the mag the is a problem not the gun. It seems that Canik does not package their pistols with 10 rounders and none of the online dealers will substitute(none that I know of). They would probably ship with out any mags but then its not such a good deal. It seems as if there is more aftermarket stuff for CZ anyway, but man some of the clones are $200 less and some perfer them to the CZs.

Give Easton Firearms Refinishing in Easton PA a call.

He deals with tons of caniks.
I bet he can ship you one without a mag or with 10 rounders(possibly on your dime).

Some clones have have options/ styles/calibers that CZ doesn't have on hand, true, but they are made elsewhere. Labor cost has an effect on cost.

I have a Witness Elite match in 10mm, another option you can't find in CZ and at a great price plus value. Great gun with a great trigger. Yet for 9mm all steel frame I would take the P-01 over most other clones . Just a matter of who has what quality for the the better price to me. Seems crazy that we have to be that shop smart in a time/decade/era we were supposedly should have been in a "state of economical security" as a nation. Can anyone say depression consciousness part 2? :D I am so mad at those guys who touted that years ago. Seems I even saw the problem before them? Where's my big seat on the WH budget committee? :scrutiny::uhoh:

Any-hoot shop around is much easier because of easier web access and that is our power at the moment. Best make good work of it before it goes to the dogs right?

Yup^^^^

That's why I like some of the clones.

Expansion on what is not offered by CZ.

Like the Armscor MAP 1 MS.

Steel frame, semi compact with a full length railed dustcover.

Also my Canik Shark FC.
Can't get an alloy framed 941 or one with porting.

The Tanfoglios are they're own breed of awesome.

Especially for their many competition guns geared specifically for different disciplines and classes. As well as many are available in 38Super and 10mm.

Also the Canik C100 since you can't readily get an alloy framed compact CZ with a manual safety anymore.

tristar p120

I have been looking for one. every one is sold out and no one knows when they will get more. if you have one for sale let me know. I want the p120 no other version. I already have a stingray and a L120.

I bought a CZ-75B in, ohh, about 1988-89ish for $270.

Then people figured out those Czech guns are pretty good, and the prices shot way up over the years.

Same thing has happened with the Bersas over the last few years.

Now I keep seeing a lot of Turkish guns getting praised, and wonder how long they're going to remain at their lowish prices.

IMHO: (which ain't worth much) "Traditional" DA pistols are steel or alloy frame, hammer fired guns. Plastic frame guns are striker fired with consistent trigger pull weight from first shot to last. There are exceptions to this like FN, kiel tec, FN, SIG250 others. I like guns that can serve double duty for home defense and carry. I like 9mm for that kind of gun. I really like the Caniks (and their prices) but they're too heavy to carry and are Trad. DA with it's looong first trigger pull and short pull on following shots. I now own a Glock 26 and a S&W Shield. As soon as I get a few bucks together I'm gonna buy a SIG 250 SC or a FNS compact. If I had additional funds I'd look for a clone of the CZ compact. My primary reason for resisting striker fired guns initially was lack of a safety. A lot of them now have that feature. I like my Glock but I won't carry it.

You hit the nail on the head....

Exactly. The prices will climb if they remain popular and something tells me they will.

Are we saying that Canik is the next CZ? That these new Turkish xerox guns have the quality and fit and finish of the Ceska Zbrojovka guns?

Based on a very small sample, I'm saying that the Canik's are knock offs, with BETTER fit and and finish than the original CZ guns.

I'm also saying that at approximately 2,000 rounds my Canik has been at least as reliable as a CZ.

In my mind there are 2 outstanding questions.

1. How will the Caniks hold up over time with heavy use? Will they maintain reliability with a 20,000 round count? 40,000? I'd be interested to hear testimonial from anyone that has really wrung thier Canik out.

2. Is the customer service up to par with large traditional firearms manufacturers/importers? My interactions with Ruger and S&W have been all that I could ask for. They basically took care of me with no questions asked. I'd guess that CZ stands behind thier products as well. Has anyone needed any waranty work on thier Canik yet?

Yeah, me. My first Canik was the Tristar C100 in 380 Auto. After a few hundred rounds, the slide bound up. I sent it to Tristar who received the gun, removed a burr, replaced the slide stop, test fired the giun and returned it to me the same day they received it. Total turn-around time was seven days. The gun has performed flawlessly since. I could not ask for better CS than that.

I recently purchased the same gun but in 9mm. No problems with this one and I don't expect any. Both guns are super accurate shooters and fun to shoot. My C100 in 9mm is in my carry rotation while the C100 in 380 is a range gun.

(When I sent the gun to Tristar, I decided to wait one week then call them to ensure they received it OK. When I called, they said that the gun was repaired and returned to me three days ago. "Huh?" Three days ago meant that it should show up 'today'. I looked at my watch and realized that it was just about the time UPS normally arrived. I went to my front door and the gun was sitting on the front step. Holycow! What a surprise that was! I was expecting them to say that they received the gun and they would get to it when they had time.)

Keep in mind that CZ customer service is perhaps the best customer service I've ever experienced, hands down. I've had CZ send me a $30 part at no cost to me, and when that part didn't work, they sent me another one at no cost (Bushing fixture on a CZ97, which was probably a 20 year old used gun). I've also recently had a CZ P07 (generation 1 under the optional recall) slightly out of the 5 year warranty, which they accepted in return and sent me a new generation P07, at zero expense to me. I received weekly updates on the return from start to finish.

I can think of few other companies that have been so hassle-free and stand behind their guns.

So, while I am interested in a Canik as a low-priced option to CZ, keep in mind that customer service is important to consider. Twice the price of the gun, perhaps not... but a consideration.

The above Canik customer service story is very encouraging!

Are the dimensions of the Canik an exact match to the CZ? At least are they close enough so that a kydex holster for a CZ be good enough to hold the Canik with good retention?

Yes. I use a Blade Tech and the Canik fits perfectly.

Inflation is a thing people :).

$270 in 1989 dollars is approximately $511 in 2015 dollars.

The regular CZ-75B at Buds right now is $536. $478 if you get a CZ75B Omega.

Prices really haven't gone up that much - your money is just worth less ;).

Actually, there is more than inflation. Guns do not typically sell based on anything market based.

The dollar is up. The CZ koruna is down.

You should be able to buy a CZ for less, but that isn't the case.
