I am really torn. I want to put tech sights on a marlin model 60 ($80 w/shipping and the sight tool). I also want to get a peep sight fitted and the old rear sight removed on my navy arms ishy carbine. Williams will do it for about $200 or so.

I also have been debating about taking a ccw course. I own only one handgun, a Ruger Blackhawk convertible new model .357/.38/9mm. I like the gun, and there are some custom high-riding belt holsters that are around $100 or so. The total cost of the course and State of Michigan licensing fees is $250.

I am torn between how best to spend my limited funds. I am spending a lot of money on college, and can only afford roughly $400 to spend as this money I've been holding onto for my birthday gift to myself. Please help me decide which path to take.

that course sounds like a waste of money to me just watch videos on u tube. and i love the mod 60 but the whole gun is only worth about 80 bucks. with 400 bucks i would just buy another gun. sorry if i sound mean

the model 60 is going to be my trainer for three other guns, and shoots better than I can, so I'm not buying another .22. Got take the course to legally carry. no way around it

Where in Michigan do you live?

There's a good CPL course being held at a discount to help fund the 2nd Amendment March in Pinckney, sometime in mid September.

Cost is only $100.

And I'd say get the CPL.

CPL hands down. No contest. CCWing is a very liberating feeling, and may save your life someday. Some of the expenses won't occur for months from now, and if you save you can save up enought for a good concealable handgun in the several months it takes to get the CPL.

Definitely get the CCW permit while you still can! You can always tinker on your guns later, but there may come a day when they shutdown issuing permits. Not likely, I hope, but ya never know.

Permit! Also, next time you have such a dilemma, add a vote option. Numbers don't lie. They can be misleading, but they don't lie.;)

I sold a Winchester 62a and had to decide between an AK (would have been my first military style rifle) or an Oregon CHL. I went with the CHL and have been very happy! You can always save up your pennies and get gun mods as you can afford them, but the CHL is a great thing to get now.

Another benefit of the CHL is that (in most states) it makes transporting weapons a hassle free event. I enjoy being able to go the range without worrying about locking up guns in a certain place/way.

Get the CPL for political reasons alone. The more CCW holders there are in this country the more evidence is in place to keep the laws on the books and not have them taken away by the leftys, err I mean leftists.

Get the CCW permit--as you could then carry if/when possible, as opposed to not legally being able to do so when you really want/need to do so.

The Marlin can wait.

I agree with earlthegoat2, in post #14. Professional politicians, before they make any decision, look at numbers and see if it will get votes. The more people with CCW, the more politicians will get behind it. I think a CCW is like a vote.

IMO permit.
Action Impact as classes for $100. (Southfield)
Permit opens up a lot of windows.

customized guns, that big brother says you can only have at home.

nope. permit.

Get the permit!

There are tons of places in the SE Michigan area that offer classes for ~$100.

$105 for the permit/5 years = ~$20/year to carry.

Renewal is ~$40 for another 5 years.

One more vote for PERMIT. I was in a similar situation. Getting my Texas CHL is the best investment I've ever made.

How much do you value your safety?

Permit...do it for yourself... do it for our society<before it goes any further left>.
