Heading down to Houston Tx for a week. I've been there a few times, but never found any really great gun stores. I'll be staying on the Nw corner of town (Porter), but plan on cruising all over. Also any good knife shops? Preferably Benchmade dealers? Where are your favorites?

Briley

Never been there but I have their products. If you are a shotgun shooter you have heard of Briley chokes and Briley sub gauge tubes. Apparently they do custom work on all type of guns as well.

Google Briley Mfr. They are off I-10.

I suggest Carter's Country. Prices are a bit steep for a lot of things, but they have a lot of really nice things that you won't find just anywhere, too.

Just depends on whether you just want new/used or just to touch/fondle or actually buy. If you just want to "look around like a tourist" then I'd say Collectors Firearms is a great place for new/used and a lot historical stuff, but way too pricey to buy there, I wouldn't (IMO). There a a lot of LGS in Houston and they all have varying inventories so good luck. Also I think there's a gun next weekend (not this one).

Thanks guys. I should have been more specific. I'm a mid aged guy that while intrested in firearm history, not really in the market for any "historic" pieces. Just looking for something that isn't Academy sports or some other chain.

Only Collector's will impress you. They have the most guns in one place that I have ever seen. Plus there is a gun show this weekend downtown. Great service and good prices if you haggle, lol.

I'm actually taking my brother in law there tomorrow. He's from Boston, and never gets to see any decent gun stores.

Tactical firearms in Katy has some pretty decent prices. Cypress Armory is another option. Is there something in particular you want to see or shoot? Where are you staying?

I'm staying in Porter. Collectors website makes it look like a heck of a place. Not looking for anything in particular, just some cool places to check out. Last time I was there I had a whole day to drive around alone, and didn't find a single gun shop. My brother in law took me to I believe "Jim Pruett's guns and ammo" several years ago. It was alot like most places here except for the NFA items. Gonna hit Lupe tortilla while I'm there too

Not a lot in the Porter area. You might check out Spring Guns & Ammo, but I'd go out to Collectors Firearms. It's well worth the trip.

I would NOT recommend Tactical Firearms in Katy. The owner was on a local radio show the other day saying he favored an internet ammo purchase ban.

Here's a link to the audio of the radio program, decide for yourself:

A few months ago I went to Tactical Firearms in Katy arriving about two minutes before opening time and stood outside the door waiting. An employee dressed in black tactical garb came out the door and as I moved towards the door he rudely stated they were not yet open. Never did darken their doorway and never will.

F tactical in Katy. Bunch of jokers.

I went to collectors today with my brother in law and a buddy. Buddy ended up buying a Kriss Vector, lol. Gonna shoot it tomorrow, can't wait.

Like mentioned in the thread, and considering Porter, Texas northeast of Houston . . .

Spring Guns & Ammo is a nice place. Not really big since it has an indoor shooting range, but the gun selection is plentiful for their size and they have rental guns. http://springgunsandammo.com/

Another one in that neck of the woods is the Carter's Country on the north side of Houston with its own outdoor rifle and handgun range. some deals are to be had once in a while and the gun selection is plentiful. http://www.carterscountry.net/

I'm another fan of Collectors Firearms deep in Houston. Deals have to be stumbled upon, but the place is awesome to experience. If you can't drive that far, just check out their website. It got updated several months back and is actually great to browse through. They update it with new inventory almost every day. http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/

Spring G&A looks good. My brother in law wants an AR, maybe I'll take mine down and we can go to their range. Never been to an official range before.

Check out AMSS on Jones Rd. Great shop VERY competitive pricing..not nearly as big as Carters, or Collectors..but you won't be paying $100 over MSRP for something used.
Oh and if your an AK/ Saiga 12 buff..hit up Tac47 in Spring. Excellent conversions and custom work..but you pay for what ya get.

My sister used to live just off Jones Rd, a few blocks up from 1960. That ought to be easy enough to find.

If you're interested in ARs, the I suggest a short visit to Cypress Armory if you're going to be in the NW side of town.

That looks like another good one. The one thing I have on my list for sure is some more window Pmags.

Collectors Firearms can have some good deals if you go there often enuff to get them before someone else......biggest selection in Houston for sure.....

Jim Pruetts store sucks..... very rude and arrogant employees....

Spring Guns and Ammo is ok.... not big but a good selection of quality firearms....

Tomball Pawn and Gun is competitive in pricing..... worth a look....

Carters Country just plain sucks..... overpriced on everything from guns, ammo, and the range fees.....

AJC in Katy is very competitively priced..... I recommend them as I got several good deals from them.

Cypress has a lot of good deals on line but not much there in the actual store to look at.....

now let me tell you how I really feel....... :)

Nice rundown. If I get another "alone" day I will try to hit most of them. If not, I will hit the ones I get close to. Last trip I tried to seach gun shops with my gps and ended up in the middle of 2 diffrent resi neighborhoods, never did find either one. This time I plan on being a bit more prepared.

no thats another shop that specialized in reloading (next to cypress n houston) AMSS is down by 1960 in the same parking lot as Mulligans Driving range/golf course. IT's actually the little white house in front. Deceptively over stocked for it's size and the service is great.
That other place (with the little blonde and her husband) are kinda stuck up and ****ty I saw an AMD65 in there and they were asking 750 for it.
