My family and I are visiting the Houston area for a week this coming week.

Which gun stores and ranges should I try to check out while I'm there? Any that I shouldn't waste my time on?

Any gun related manufacturers or online gun stores in the area I should visit?

I'm interested in pistols, AR-15s, concealed carry, ranges, reloading, ammo, IDPA, etc. I will be taking some of my firearms with me in hopes of getting a chance to shoot at a cool place.

I'm from the Houston area originally and know how to get around town.

Don't recall the name of the place...

Get out of the Washburn Tunnel and once into Pasadena. There is Stop&Rob just down the way...

I may be dumb, but I ain't stupid. I see a "gathering" of folks with guns displayed in public at night...I can get gas down the way and tinkle there instead.

"Hi, Pasadenda PD, you might want to check the Stop&Rob , yeah that lot over that-a-way".

I don't recommend you actually check out this "firearms place" - just a heads up about the last one I found out about.

Collectors' Firearms is nice. One or two of the employees seem to have a deep rooted faith in their own BS. Just ignore them. It has a VERY good selection and is clean. No worry about taking family members in.

You are probably not in on a weekend that has a gun show. I think the next here is the final weekend in July.

Top Gun Range is very clean and rents firearms if you just want to shoot. It’s also indoors which is pretty nice this time of year.

A nice outdoor range is American Shooting Centers. No rental so you’ll have to bring your own.

The range I go to is in Pasadena. Nothing to look at and I swear the brass fairy pays hourly visits to the lanes, but the people are nice. They rent full auto’s. So if you want a treat, Pasadena Gun Center is the name.
No website… but I think, this is the #: 713-472-0417

There is an IDPA group that meets at North Houston rage called The 58 Gun Range. No clue about the place or if it still there.

There is also Charter's Country up near Spring, TX. I've never been there but they are supposed to have a big selection and a gun range.

And to attest to sm’s claims. Some parts of the city are not nice to be in after dark. There are a couple you wouldn’t catch me in at high noon. But when you stick this many people in one place, you’re bound to get some people who need to be avoided.

One day I will be in Pflugerville and Houston will be a “Past Address” on an application.

I will second Collector's Firearms.

Carter's Country has 4 or so locations around Houston, but I think the Spring location is the biggest.

If you want to see really big guns, the Battleship Texas is in Deer Park off Battleground Road (not too far from that Pasadena range). The Battle of San Jacinto monument is right next to it.

Thanks for the replies. Keep 'em coming.

Comp-tac is in Houston?
Isn't there an AK-47 manufacturer/distributor there?
Is there a Cabela's in Houston area yet?

there is a place down in texas city, that will let you fly full auto. there is an indoor range for handguns and 22 long arms, right in the uptown area, Richmond ave. and beverly hill, called top gun. there is a new range at I-10 and memorial city mall, cant remember if it is on the other side of the hwy, or that side. the best range is a huge outdoor place, on westheimer, past hwy 6, once you cross hwy 6 , get in the right lane, at the first light do a jog leg to the right, it will be down on the right about 2 miles. American shooting centers. You can do trap, skeet, lane stalk, with shotties, then they have pistol ranges from 7 yds to 25 yds. then the long ranges go from 50 to 600 m. they also have ipsc pits and shoot them in competition every tuesday night.this range you pay one fee, and you can stay and shoot all day, the others are by the hour , except the texas city range. The good gun shops are the big stores , such as Carters country, and gander mountain. then for the mom and pop shops, go to Collectors Firearms, a truly huge place. They are over priced, but if they don't have it , it doesn't exist. and they have lots of very old, rifles, swords, andrevolvers. Also Foutain firearms on hwy 6 and bissonet, It is about 5 miles south of hwy 6 , from american shooting centers.

not a gun shop, but if you like big rockets, and head down to the Texas city range, stop by nasa, space center houston is very interesting and informative, check out all the space suits, and the kiddies will love it.

Eastex Tactical IDPA meets at the 59 Gun Range on Mondays at 6. Shooting starts at 6:30.

Slightly off topic, but if answered then a great place to check out is A.R. Shooting Range.

Somewhere around league city, but I have no idea where. Only been twice with my brother, never drove there, but I've been dying to go back since the Pasadena Gun Center lost it's appeal.. PGC is nice for full-auto friendliness, but I want to shoot further than 25yds...

so, anyone know where A.R. Shooting range is?
