Wouldn't that buckle holding the holster onto the seat start to hurt your rear? Maybe I am too much of a "Princess and the Pea" type of guy, but I even remove my wallet before driving long distances in the car. I think a buckle under me will start to annoy.

In my case the center console of my car works great. Guess I am a lucky one.

Since concealed carry is not much of an issue in a car, I would prefer a larger caliber weapon, but that's me. However, if you want to put your pocket mouse gun in a place that allows you to draw easier while seated in the car, then it would make sense.

BTW, you don't sit on the buckle and it is impossible to feel under your thigh.

I'll keep mine in a IWB holster on my hip.......and if am going on a long trip pistol goes in a cross draw holster. Seems just another gimmick fad holster IMO.....
Have been known to take the pistol and put it under my right leg since I am right handed.....:uhoh:

IWB is fine when when I am not in the car, but I know that if the situation arose, I would be dead before I could get a round off.

As for only carrying in the car when on long trips, I would not want to count on someone trying to kill me or carjack me only when I am on a long trip.

But whatever works for you...

BTW, I don't think this holster is a new thing, just new to me.

I previously had a universal nylon holster that I secured to the frame rail on my passenger seat with two large zip-ties, but that was kinda cheesey. This holster work much better in my experience. And no, I have not used it in self defense, but then, I have not used a gun in self defense either. But at least I am ready, whether I am in the car, or out of the car.

I really don't like this idea. Even though the holster is pretty well hidden what are you going to do when you get to your destination? Climb out take the gun out of this holster and transfer to your IWB? Keep the gun in the holster and cover with a jacket or towel? Either way bad idea to many eyes. Why not just use a fanny pack or other bag and keep it in the middle seat? Then when you get to where you are going you grab and go!;)

This holster is not for everyone. Guns are not for everyone. And to some, fanny packs seem like a good idea for ccw.

For me, this holster does exactly what I need it to do.

I am not worried about someone with x-ray vision being able to see through my car doors after I get in the car and before I get out. I can think of better things to worry about, if that was my nature.

SilverState. Got a question. Do you leave the tool in the car? or do you transfer it to and from your carry holster upon entry and disembarking the vehicle??

Car holster? Who carries a car?!

Hopefully you'll carry a sub-compact.

I would appreciate it more for larger pistols. For my compact pistols, i.e. KelTec P3AT, it's just as accessible while in an ankle holster. Of course, if required open-carry, that doesn't work. Nice site. Thanks.

SilverState,

It looks very good to me. Thanks for sharing.

I also see how law enforcement could use it to great advantage.

I'm just cheap I guess. I place my weapon in the passenger's seat and place a jacket over it. I get out of the car and transfer the weapon to the carry holster on my person. :D

Unfortunately, just leaving the gun on top of the seat, even under a jacket, will probably cause it to fall off into the footwell or next to the door if you are in an accident that results in a sudden stop, or you have to swerve drastically for some reason. Even a heavy bump may cause it to fall off the seat. Some carjackings and armed robberies involve the car in front stopping suddenly and causing the following car to ram into it. Similar things can happen in a road rage situation. This could leave you unarmed if your weapon wasn't securely retained and you had to hunt for it on the floor somewhere.

Bench seat

With my truck, I have a holster wedged (tightly) in the split of the bench, on my right side, seems to work for me.

Seems like most of you see the utility of the car holster in that it allows you to draw easily while in the driving position while avoiding unwanted movement in the event of a sudden stop or quick turn. Glad I could help.

* I agree on not having a gun laying on a seat or otherwise not contained. I had an accident once where my truck ended up flipping side over side several times at a high rate of speed. EVERYTHING in the truck flew out of the truck that wasn't bolted down, or in my case, belted down, since the windows blew out, so all my property was strung across over 100 yards of interstate highway. Hence, I tend to like things attached to my person, or secured in something w/ retention, that goes for my cell phone too, coz if you're injured, you may not be able to get to your phone or gun if it's not *secured* within reach, even after a minor accident.

* I could see how someone would like this unit, but it may also depend on the laws in your state. I'm having a discussion on another board about that. I live on the border of two states, one (NC) has OPEN placement mandatory in vehicle, and one (SC) has closed compartment mandatory.

The debate seems to be over if I get a CCW, how does that impact vehicle placement. Some feel that it makes no difference, that you're only entitled to CCW on person, but if I remove the weapn from my person, it must be OPEN in NC and stil IN A COMPARTMENT in SC.

Others believe that the CCW entitles me to also conceal the weapon in the vehicle in NC, and not require me to keep it open. And most think that the compartment law still applies in SC, I could not use this holster in SC, I don't believe, as it would be open, and the CCW does not remove that restriction.

One guy that lived in a closed compartment state said that he kept his gun under his leg while driving sometimes, and got pulled over that way once. Cop was cool about it, but informed him that just because he had a CCW did not remove his compartment restriction, that if it wasn't *on* his person or in the compartment, he'd be in violation, and that *under* his person did not count.

Just repeating what I've heard... Still looking into the facts myself, but make sure you know your state's laws before putting something like that in the car.

Rediculous...My weapon sits on the seat covered by a jacket. If I have to stop the car or have an accident wherein the weapon falls to the floor...I dont see what the problem is? I always carry a pocket weapon; .380 P38T or S&W 642 if it warrants drawing prior to me taking that 1/32 of a second to pick up the big gun off the floor. What is the problem you are fantasizing here anyway? Methinks you are all holster happy...need to spend your money on the latest and greatest.

Methinks is a tongue and cheek remark...and yes, it is nice. I still do not see why one needs a holster for a car...hmmm, shouldn't BMW's come with a holster already built in the dashboard? I have a bridge somewhere in Arizona I'd like to sell you...and yes, it has a built in holster. I bet you have a holster on the side of your bed...yes? Maybe one on the side of your upstairs toilet?:scrutiny:

Currently I just place my gun in the center console of my car. The console opens towards the passenger seat so no one but the driver knows it is there and that it is being accessed. In the last 4 years that I have had my CCW, none of my dates have noticed the gun going from my pocket to the center console or vice versa. So I never had to worry about broaching that conversation of why I carry a gun or using the saying "better to have it and not use it than to need it and not have it".

I suppose the car holster can be a good idea if the buckle was not too uncomfortable and acceptable by your significant other, but I have yet to picture the scenario where I would need to draw that quickly from my car. Maybe I am naive but I would think the accellerator would save you more than the gun.

I guess the bottom line is that if it makes you more comfortable to be able to quickly pull a gun in a car (or for that matter in the toilet), then by all means get whatever gives you that comfort level. Currently I am comfortable keeping aware of my surroundings, avoiding possible situations, and having the gun ready when all else fails.

I am all for someone making something new that people like and can use. It looks like an interesting piece that would be useful for some. I usually place my firearm in the center console along with my wallet if I am on a long ride.
One thing I did buy recently is a shoulder holster for my trip to AL and back. I really like that setup and for $20 it does its intended job.
