Handled a Bushmaster Carbon-15 at a gun show yesterday! Never was too interested in the AR until I started ready threads on the web about how accurate they can be,<1MOA!! Low/no recoil. Other than that I really don't know squat about 'em. Dealer said the Carbon was the cheapest Bushy at the show, but probably the most accurate!! Should I go to the credit union in the morning?? $795 IIRC + scope & mount. 3.5 lbs aprox!

Perhaps you should read some more on the Professional Ordnance Carbon 15. Some have experienced nothing but headaches with these.

They have been redesigned by bushmaster and the changes have already been incorporated like a parkerized carrier and spec bolt wich the PO made rifle didnt have the bolt was different.

I don't see any reason why not.
I would love to have a few people serve as the guina pig and let the rest of us know how these new Bushmasters run.
Really, you will get all kinds of negative comments about the old Professional Ordinance Corbon 15s, but this isn't a Professional Ordinance Carbon 15, this is a Bushmaster.
Get one.

yes, yes, someone buy one of the new ones and give us a range report. Even though I cannot buy one, I'd like to know if BM is able to improve over the PO POS.

If it's your first AR, I would hold off on the Professional Ordnance and get a more traditional AR with an Al upper and lower. There's just less chance of something going wrong. Bushmaster seems to have addressed the performance issues of the P.O. rifles, but there are still a few going back to the factory with problems (just go read up on AR15.com). The standard AR is a tried and true product and you could probably get a superlight and still wind up with something in the ballpark in terms of lightness.

Thanks, guys! Went to AR15.com last night and found some Carbon 15 info. I realize BM has "fixed" these and more problems seemed to be wit the pistol. BM has an excellent rep. Think I'll use the $$ to finish a couple other projects!!

Bushmaster's Carbon 15 has a lifetime warranty and they have put a good bit of time and effort into making sure that they don't go belly-up due to repair work. If my interest was simply finding a fun gun to shoot that was accurate and quick pointing, then it is hard to beat the Carbon 15. For low recoil buy an old SKS. The stock on the Carbon 15 turns my shoulder black and blue when shooting shirt only.

$795 IIRC + scope & mount.

I don't know. The gun show I was at last Sat. had one dealer selling bull barrel AR shorties from Olympic for $599. Why not just get the real thing first? Plus, bigger aftermarket.

I'm going to get one of these before the year is out. I've never seen the point in the pistols, but TEHO. A 4.3lb AR intrigues me, and I've spent more money on sillier things, so this is a no brainer. I'm going to skip the scope and other such stuff. I think I'll run with 20rd mags in it for even further reduced weight. :D

There is no way to get a standard AR15 anywhere near that light. I have tried.

Not that this has anything to do with the thread but I was watching Mail Call last night and the Gunny had a little blub about the Thompson and the MP 40 submachine guns. He mentioned their specs and both guns weighed something like 12 pounds IIRC. People today complain about the weight of a rifle that weighs far less than a WWII subgun firing a pistol cartridge. Again, just something that caught my attention. I never really gave much thought to how heavy those old subguns were. Now we can have an M4 with an optic, a vertical foregrip, and a super bright weapons light in a package that weighs 2/3s as much. Or a Carbon 15 that weighs 1/3 as much.
