Are the Bushmaster Carbon-15 rifles worth $1000 (in your opinion)?

I was looking at them and got to thinking:

Glock 19 + loaded 15rd. mag.
+
Bushmaster Carbon-15 97S + loaded 20rd. mag.
=
About 8 lbs. total!

There are a lot of rifles that weigh more than that empty...

$1000 is extremely HIGH. The model 97 is about $760 out the door at my local dealer and the model 21 is roughly $60 less I believe.

I was just going by the MSRP. I'll have to shop around and see if I can find prices like that.

Any comments on the Carbon-15, anyone?

I have one of the original 97S built by Professional Ordnance and love it. The quick detach muzzle break is cool and it is way lighter than anything else I've carried. Weights about the same loaded with a 30 rounder as my Colt AR15 does without a mag. The carbon fiber/stainless steel combo mean very low maint. It never fails to turn heads at the range either.

I've got one, it's a neat little rifle. $1000 is a great price if you get a scope, rings, and a bunch of ammo with it. Maybe some magazines, too....Anyway- mine's got a better trigger than any stock AR I've had, it doesn't get blistering hot after a few mags like my 16" XM15 Bushmaster, seems to like any magazine I've tried in it- maybe 6 or 8 different brands. It's not a precision sniper rifle- I suppose you could put a big scope on it, but that's not what this rifle is about. I put a 1-4 Leupold on mine, some guys are using red dots. I put a couple hundred rounds through mine a few days ago- zero hiccups. I think I paid a little over $800 for mine at Sportsman"s Warehouse.

I'm stuck with one of the ProOrd ones.

If you want my experience with it do a search of either this site or Patriot Network for Carbon-15.

And my opinion of Bushmaster went down after they picked up this design.:scrutiny:

I've done searches on it. My impression was that Bushmaster fixed ProOrd's broken design.

I haven't seen any complaints about the Bushmaster version, other than recoil because of its light weight.

Here from AR15.com again, and yes, Bushmaster did fix the design. I would rather have an AR that will accept all the standard AR parts. If you really want polymer, go for a Cavarms lower and a normal upper. If you don't have a problem with the stainless barrel and the distinct lack of any sort of dust cover, by all means go grab one.

If they offered one with a chrome-lined lightweight barrel, more rail options and a dust cover, I wouldn't be building my own AR this summer. It's a great idea, but they need to capitalize on it, it needs more options. Modularity is what makes the AR so pimptastic.

Guys, I've got a Colt that runs 100% and my Carbon 15 runs 100%. Recoil? C'mon, it's a .223 with a compensator, it recoils less than my 16" post ban Colt. My daughter, who can't yet rack the slide on a .45, shoots it.
