Carjacking

Carjacking is so prevalent recently is because stealing newer cars is more difficult. In years past stealing a car was easy, for a chop shop, or for a joy ride. With the advent of surveillance cameras, license plate readers, stolen cars are more used to commit felonies. To extend the jackers time to commit their crime they strip the car owner of wallet, phone, and key fob, then stuff you into the trunk so you can’t call in the theft. After they commit their crime (armed robbery, murder, rape) what are their plans for the only witness? I always have a BUG (LCP) In case my Shield is wrested from me. I will never get into a trunk unarmed.

I guess we'll just have to send to our friends and loved-ones a drive plan just as pilots file a flight plan.

With a program, one could tell the phone where you'll be, the coordinates, and if you are not there as planned, the phone or a security company would then call your family or friend so that they can call you to check on you. Receiving the call, if you do not use a pre-agreed code word, then they call the cops. I've got a security system in my home and that company calls me if a break-in or fire is detected. Before going to bed or when leaving the house we arm the system.

If one lives in a high-crime city, a tracker could be placed in the car frame. Invisible dyes in the car fabric could be used.

Or here's a way off-the-wall idea, don't free violent felons nor the violent mentally ill onto the streets. Here's another crazy idea, enforce the gun laws. Don't plea-bargain-away the firearm violations.

Here on the borderlands, illegals steal your I.D. along with your car so that they can get past the Border Patrol inspection stations.
They want the most ordinary, local-looking vehicles possible and the victims to look as much like the high-jacker as possible.
Of course, they don't want the victim to be able to report the theft until they are long gone - if ever... .

In my state, based on my experience, if someone calls the police to report that they just pointed a firearm at someone brandishing a knife at them just outside their car window nothing is going happen unless the suspect or witnesses come forward with a different story. Even then if it's a he said/she said situation nothing is likely to happen by law enforcement.

However, my reaction would be to drive away if at all possible. I would not shoot someone with a knife when there is auto glass and a locked door between them and I unless I was blocked in and they also had a means to immediately break my window such as a rock or hammer or something else along with the knife that's capable of smashing glass. Window glass is really difficult to break and it's unlikely someone is going to do it with a fist.
