5" 1911 here also, but ive only had my ccw a few months while it was still hot in Ohio.
IWB holsters go a long way if you find the right one for you.
Im able to carry it only wearing an untucked t-shirt.I do also have a PT745 sub compact .45 which is easier to conceal and wear, but i prefer my 1911.But the days activities can many times dictate i carry the smaller weapon.

As i said im new so im still learning about what i prefer carry wise gun and holster wise.
I do seem to prefer to carry full sized main gun and my bug i choose for the day just depends on my mood more than anything.
I knew going in i wanted a 5 gun ccw collection.
2 mains in .45 one small 9mm that can be a main or bug and 2 small bugs in .380 and .25
I also make most of my holsters or at least modify them to my liking as most lower priced ones dont ever fit perfectly.Due to that i have 2 holsters for every gun i own,IWB and OWB both.
So with 5 guns and 10 holsters i think i pretty much have a solution for any days ccw requirements.

4" XD45 Service. It's not all ever I carry, but I carry it IWB sometimes. The only real issue is getting my belt just right: not too tight to be comfortable, not too loose to hold the big, heavy pistol up.:)

I know a lot of people concentrate on the importance of a top notch belt. What I have found is that the pants are equally, if not more, important. Recently, I had on a pair of jeans that used to fit better, but now are on the tight side (they must have shrunk!) ;-) I was able to comfortably carry a full sized 1911 in a kydex paddle holster with no belt whatsoever!

I've noticed in the past that if my pants are loose, the belt has to take up the slack instead of sharing it with a proper fitting pair of pants. IOW, loose pants make a heavy gun more uncomfortable.

Just my observation.
