Full size pistol - concealed carry

I have a couple of kydex OWB holsters that are adjustable for cant, and work well as a cross draw, or at least for me they do. Putting a protractor on my one Blade Tech, right now, its about 25-30* as best as I can tell, and it looks like it will adjust to about 45*. Its a comfortable holster, just not real concealable, as most cross draws arent. When I do wear it, its on my belt at about 11 o'clock, and just forward of my left hip bone.

As far as IWB and buying bigger pants, I suppose it depends on how youre built and what you wear. For me, my regular size pants (33-34) work fine, and actually, better than pants that are a couple of sizes larger. They are snug when you first put the gun in, but the material soon gives, and its still very comfortable, even when sitting down and driving. This helps greatly in keeping the gun in place and helps at reducing movement. With larger pants, everything tends to be sloppier, and move around a lot, even when you snug your belt down. Another downside to it is, you will tend to end up filling them out more in other, more detrimental ways. When your pants are slightly snug, it helps keep your mind on your waist line. :)

Again, concealed carry is a very personal thing. You have to be absolutley
comfortable - and confident with every aspect of this concept. The last thing
you want is to be struggling with 1 minor oversight when the party starts.

Reguardless of all of us know it all monkeys here just carry your choice of gun the way you want and as the years go by you will find your preferred method and favorate firearm. Just don't change as the year changes. Find what works for you and stay with it. 26years and no change with how i carry.

sooo . . . you've actually BURNED an oboe and a bassoon side by side? Just askin'.

Taurus 24/7

I carry a full sized Taurus 24/7 9mm and have never had a problem. During the summer i can wear a T-shirt (untucked) and have never had any problems. I carry IWB using a Tagua holster and love it. I am considering getting a Taurus 99 or Baretta M9. I prefer the 5" barrell over the 4" but am wondering if the extra inch will make a difference in carrying comfortably.

I carry a Sig P6 IWB. Never had any trouble, although I don't think I could pull of a single t-shirt in the summer.

One thing i learned here is take advice you want to hear and skip the stuff you feel you dont agree with. This way you got a 50% chance of getting good advice.
But what i mean is do what you want if it works.

Many people like me regularly carry a full sized 1911 IWB and OWB and have no issues. I do have a few times in the summer months and go to a smaller gun due to lack of clothing to hide that brick.

Ive found OWB i can carry any gun comfortably, IWB it can get sketchy depending on the temperature outside, Then i switch to my Officers 1911.

My point is you can carry almost any sized gun you want if clothing and weather permits, But ive found that owning 3 ccw guns gives me an advantage.

But i will say i can carry a 5" 1911 IWB with shorts and a T-shirt and i spent the whole day with the Range Officer at my local DNR and he had no idea i was packing let alone a 1911. He was amazed to say the least.
But in order to do it, It took a year of testing positions and making a specific holster modified to my needs.
But that still don't make it the best choice, But i love the gun so i make sacrifices to carry it tho.
Its heavier, Sticks out without my belt pulled silly tight and pokes me in the wrong spot just when i don't need it to. But it wasn't made to be worn like that, But it can be done.
And nothing is more comforting than a 5" 1911 stuck in your side with its weight reminding you its there when you need it.

But don't get me wrong, I also have a 3.5" Officers 1911 and a tiny Kahr MK9 as i too like to be comfortable at times.
But my point is anything can be done as long as your commited to doing it and love carrying it.

I just don't care for pistols under full size. I prefer to focus on proficiency with one pistol and to carry that pistol.

This is where I live too. I just don't care for less than full size. I prefer to focus on one pistol for HD/SD etc.

To have that, I make choices in clothing purchase & selection to suit my carry and not my carry to fit my clothes.

I don't think smaller guns are media driven. I think media, gun magazines in this case are attracted to new and shiny things so they don't have to write about old rusty things. I don't think its an accident the 10 round G26 came out when suddenly hand guns could only carry ten rounds. I don't think its a coincidence that there are suddenly a whole bunch of states passing shall issue carry laws and there are a lot of small hand guns being manufactured. You have a bunch of people who can carry and not a lot of experience concealing a gun. Nor are they likely to want to change their lifestyle or be uncomfortable to do so. I place myself in both those categories. Manufacturers are responding to new markets with new products. I remember being in my unit's armsroom when the new M9s came in and the first observation holding them next to the old 1911s were we had no idea they were that big, bigger in every dimension in fact. If you want to carry it its your decision and you will be living with it. I say sincerely with no sarcasm good luck with it. Personally, I looked at my G17 and the Arizona summer and test fired and bought a G26. I've never regretted that decision.

I used to use my bazooka as a car gun, but the people in the back seat always complained when I shot it...
Rambo got away w/ shooting one in a helicopter

Smaller handguns are not a new notion by any means, and they are certainly not media driven.

Heck, cowboys, lawmen, and outlaws were shortening the barrel-length of their six-shooters even back in the 1800's.

No, they are not new, but all along for the most part, they were not used as the "only" gun, like many now are, and were used as a second or third gun, as some of us still use them.

These days, it seems for many, the gun is more of a fashion accessory or once again, a status thing among peers, than it is a tool. Those big old war horses, are just sooo out of style dont you know, and dont fit in well with todays "mod" fashions. :)

i carry 2 fs and a 4in owb edc i drive a gas truck and deal with the
public every day havent been made yet, find a good belt and holster, and you are good to go, i have a bad back and knee the weight was a little heavy at
first but worked through it now i dont even feel it.

That's because those "big old war horses" were designed, well, for WAR.

Now, I live in the crappy part of town, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it a "war zone".

How do you know if this is true?

I have noticed others who were carrying before, but I didn't mention it.
So they probably think I was totally unaware that they were carrying.

My point being: folks might notice that you're carrying and just choose to not make a big deal about it.
So you really have no way of knowing if you are successfully concealing or not unless someone makes a remark to you.

Still works for me, Mr. Easy! That's my whole point - regardless of cost, the Beretta 92 is a gun I shoot well, and I'm not the least bit worried about its quality (although I do believe that its quality is superb).

As to "being made" - hey, so far as I'm concerned, if nobody makes a big deal of it, I'm three quarters of the way home.

But if you'll check out my most recent posting of a link, you may be convinced that you truly can conceal a full size war horse if you want to - and I want to.

Most people are oblivious to most things going on around them, and youre giving them way to much credit for paying attention. As long as you dont do something blatant, to attract attention, at most, you'll get a casual glance. For the most part, those who carry a gun are usually way to paranoid and to hard on themselves, which really isnt a bad thing, as long as you dont get crazy about it.

If you go about your business as if youre supposed to be doing what ever it is you are doing, no one will pay you any mind. Look like youre guilty, self conscious, and up to something, and all eyes will be on you.

Over the years, I've spotted a lot of people wearing guns. Most were cops, and it was obvious, as many of them dont seem to care. Most of those I've spotted were wearing shoulder holsters, or wearing a cover garment that want appropriate for what they were trying to cover. Shoulder holsters are usually the easiest to spot, for a number of reasons, and wearing clothes that are to tight and to light a color to boot isnt a good idea either. Use some common sense, dress appropriately for what ever it is youre doing, and you'll have no trouble.
