I'm searching for a new firearm in 9mm. I have been trying to buy a Kel-Tec Sub-2000 carbine but that sale seems to be eternally pending. :banghead:

I'm considering a full size 9mm autoloading pistol in the meantime. I've messed around with a Glock 17 but I'd like something different since I already carry a Glock 19.

I've shot both a Beretta 92(fs?) and a Jericho of some sort (although in .40SW) and I appreciated their heaviness and low recoil compared to my G19. I want something that's a good value (<$600ish), reliable, and easy to maintain in a full size 9mm. I might carry it occasionally but it's mostly going to be a home-defense gun and range toy.

I really want a Beretta 92fs. What else should I consider?

CZ SP-01 is perfect for you.

I have one and I love mine *rubs his gun lovingly*

its heavy duty, upgradeable, accurate as a laser, has barely any recoil and it's got stock night sites!

if I had to do it again, I may have just went for a CZ 75B S/A

I never ever use the light rail (but it looks cool) and I never use the gun in D/A.

CZ is popular is US, but I am not sure where do you live- so I will give suggestions based on international market in terms of what is highly regarded in collectors box and/or law enforcement:
-Beretta 92FS Inox
-Glock 17
-HK P30
-HK USP
-Taurus PT 24/7 Pro (some like some dont)
-Walther P99
-Sig 226

I'm in the US, Mid-West with no mag capacity restrictions, etc. The Sig 226 definately seems like a possibility. Glock 17 is already out for me I think. CZ seems alright. I just really like the aesthetics of the Beretta compared to my ugly but functional Glock.

I'm realizing that the Beretta has no light rail. I would kind of like to be able to use my Streamlight (mounted on my G19 at night). Maybe this isn't such a big deal but I thought some 92's had a rail...

the beretta is a good choice, but i personally don't care for the size, and the da/sa's so i would recommend that you give the sa xd line a try, you already have a glock, what about an m&p? they are all great choices, but above them all i would take the xd.

If I were looking at full size 9mm.s, I would msot definitely have the Browning Hi-Power at the top of the list. Some other great ones would be the Sig P226, the Beretta M92 Vertec, the Walther P99, and the CZ 75.

CZs seem to be dominating this thread, so let me throw the proverbial curve: check out the Smith & Wesson M&P autoloaders and the Springfield XD series. Both offer good ergonomics, "soft" recoil (at least, in the 9's; I haven't shot larger calibers), good accuracy, both companies have good CS reputations, and both are under $500 (buds has both for under $450, even).

Good luck! So many choices...so little time.

I second a stainless S&W (659, 5906, etc.) if you'd like a 'stay-at-home' heavier full size 9mm. I love my 659 :) Excellent reliability through 10's of thousands of rounds; only failures were due to ammunition (and only 2 of them - in the same box!)

Lighter is good for carrying, in that case I'd prefer the 92fs or even the lighter glock or springfield XD or S&W M&P lines.

Glock 34
Browning Hi-power
Sig

IMHO the Beretta has a terrible trigger. But you should go try to find out for yourself. A BHP can have a wonderful trigger. a G34 has much better ergo's than a G19/G17, try one, you'll like it.

Dude. You seem to like the Beretta 92FS. Just go get one. What do you need our affirmation for? you picked a good gun, and a gun that is pleasing to YOU. everyone here is going to mention THEIR favorite gun and try to tell you why theirs is the best. but guess what? Everyone has different taste. If your taste leads you to the Beretta, then so be it. there is nothing even slightly wrong with the Beretta.

I have three full size 9mms that I really like
Sig P226
Beretta 92FS
CZ75
You won't go wrong with any of those three.

If you want to keep it at $600. - you can get the Beretta and the CZ new any have a little $$ left for ammo.
A new P226 will set you back a bit more, or you can go with a CPO (certified pre-owned) or used.

As others have posted, it sounds like the Beretta is what you want - so go for it.
If you aren't sure, try the CZ and Sig before you buy the Beretta

Try the G34 or an XD9 Tactical. Both are softer shooting and have a longer sight radius than your G19. Both are great range guns with rails. The G34 also uses magazines that you can use with your current G19 or with a Sub-2000 in Glock configuration should you eventually go that route. The XD9 Tactical is a very soft shooter with a much better trigger than any Glock.

My vote goes to the S&W M&P 9.

18 rounds, 1911 grip angle. great pointability. customizable grips out of the box..

IMO, the next generation of Glocks.
