Carry what you are comfortable with and maintain your readiness and situational aware

I'm a big fellow as my clothes come from the Tall & Big Men store. Most of the time I carry a a 2 1/4" SP101 in a pancake and it is nearly impossible to detect, in super stealth mode in an IWB. You would have to frisk me to find it in the waist band. In that occasional time, I carry a GLOCK 21 in a pancake; if I turn just right you will see it, but I can get away with that too. Most of my shirts are the pocket pull overs like a golfing shirts. I carry a speedloader with the revolver and a spare magizine with the GLOCK even though I don't know why. If 14 rounds of .45 acp isn't enough something real bad has gone terribly wrong. Its all about body size, build and clothing. Carry what you are comfortable with and maintain your readiness and situational awareness!

I carry my SW642 about 90% of the time I can carry. Where I work it is a safety hazard to carry, but the rest of the time, it's in my pocket. The other 10% of the time I carry an alloy-framed 5" 1911 IWB. I have a 3" .357 k frame that I need to get leather for, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

It's hot here, so concealment is not easy. I have my P32 Kel Tec 24/7 in a modified KD holster rear pocket carry. I know it's not "proper" to many, but it does go bang every time I pull the trigger & I don't have to do anything different to carry it.
I carry the KT P-11 or S&W 3913 anytime I can reasonably conceal them.

It really isn't terribly hard to carry the P-11 year-round:

Year round with the P-11 is difficult when you're required to wear tucked in short sleeve dress shirts & the need to be 100% concealed or face being unemployed. That's where the P32 shines, small yes, but I can confidently conceal it.
I carry the P-11 middle of the back with the belt clip & it works excellent when I can have my shirt tail out.

DirtyBob,
What kind of holster is that you use for the P-11. I may get one soon and don't know what kind of holster to purchase.

Right now, I carry an SP101 3" IWB, it carries pretty well, but sometimes i would like something smaller. I use 158gr Speer Gold Dots.

During the summer weeks up in the Seattle area I carry my Para-Ordnance P-12 IWB in a Milt Sparks Summer Special.

When it is colder, I carry my Kimber Custom II also in a Summer Special. One spare mag for the P-12, 2 for the Kimber.

My training is in 1911s, so that is what I carry. Fight how you train, and all that.

It's a Galco "USA" model. It's tuckable, and mine's made for a 1.25" belt. I carry tucked fairly often, and the blousing of the shirt in front hides the butt. I've gone to magazines without the finger rest, to make it easier to hide.

Under the shirt, it's 100% invisible, but I can understand going to a P-32 or P-3AT for deep cover in a non-permissive environment (NPE).

Dirty Bob

Most of the time (esp. warmer weather) G27 in a High Noon Holster in the right hip pocket of my shorts or uniform pants. In the winter its the Colt commander

I either carry my XD 45 or high power. I agree with Gunsmith I'll buy my clothes based on CCW. To answerBoomstick82's question about shorts I'll wear a belt with shorts to secure the weapon, or use my Galco fanny pack.

Duane Thomas wrote an article that really impressed me years ago. He talked about your basic battery of handguns. It went something like this:

1) Your everyday combat ccw.

2) Another much like #1 that stays in the safe until you are involved in an incident and someone confiscates #1. You are still carrying something much like your primary when you are carrying #2.

3) A BUG that can be carried in a pocket, boot, or offside.

4) A BBQ gun that can be carried when nothing else can be concealed.

#1 has been a 45ACP Semi of different sorts for some years now. I am in hopes that the new XD-45 Compact that I acquired the other day will be #1 after I get it to the range to "prove" it. I think it is going to be "perfect" for me with the two different mag sizes available. Then I will just need another XD-45 Compact to be #2.

I do have a Titanium Taurus 651 5-shot 357 with a LaserGrip on it that is my #3 for sure. Loaded with CorBon 158 LSWCHP +P's and either speed loader(s) or speed strip(s), I do not feel undergunned for my daily activities or checking the premises at night. 357 Mags are an option if I ever feel the need.

I also have a KelTec P32 loaded with Silvertips and a spare 10 round magazine that is my #4. I carry it as primary when the wardrobe dictates, BUG to the Taurus 651, and Third to the Taurus 651 and 45 Semi when location or "feeling" dictates.

This basic battery has seemed adequate for several years now. I just make a change in the particular models when I find something that I believe will serve better.

Anything listed is better than a sharp stick in a gunfight. Good luck in your search for the right gun(s) for you.

My EDC is a Kahr MK9 Elite98, but what makes it EDC isn't just the gun itself, but the leather.

Good leather is the most important part of a carry rig you can wear every day.

Mine is an HBE Leatherworks DC Special (Eric posts here as PCRCCW).

All season = BHP 9mm + 2 15 round mags (waist)
Occaisional (clothing permiting) = 6" Colt .357 Trooper Mk3, + 2 speedloaders (shoulder)

Right now (when I'm home) it is a Kahr K9 all the time. I'm gonna step up to my P226 and start carrying it 2/3rds of the year. Leave the K9 for the hotter times. Probably also get a P3AT or similar for those times when I am currently going without. That is very rare though, shorts and a T-shirt are plenty to conceal the K9.

I've tried several differing types of pistols for CCW over the last 10 years.

I settled on a 1911 series 70 GM from Dan Wesson.

As another poster alluded to - a good holster & belt are very important. I went with a Sparks Versa Max 2 - great holster - comfortable.

12-34hom.

i have a glock 26 and a kimber uc II - both too heavy. im looking at the s&w 340PD - its 12 ounces - ill load it with .38

Boomstick, you and I dress alike. I personally carry a Bulgarian makarov with an extra magazine and its never been an issue even wearing shorts. I usually favor a cargo type short mainly because they're beefy enough to carry a gun in a proper holster. I usually wear it at about 4:00 or 5:00 depending on the shirt.

I've had a KT P32 ride front pocket weak side in a Galco holster for about 6 years now. It's my BUG. My primary has varried over the years, but right now it's either a S&W 340PD or a Colt Commander. When circumstances demand it, I'll downgrade my primary to a second P32. On my last birthday, just for S&Gs, I caried all 4 of my P32s.

Tepin, when you find your 340PD you'll be tempted to try 357s from it. I have only 3 bits of advice for you. 1) Only try the Speer Gold Dot 357mag Short Barrel load. Every other round I tried pulled bullets. 2) Use a low thumb hold. The cylinder latch will gouge a BIG hole out of your thumb otherwise. 3) When you shoot, "Let 'um hear your battle cry!" I know it sounds stupid, but if you yell your fool head off when you pull the trigger back on that first 357. For some reason, it soaks up some of the recoil. And for the record, I usually carry Speer Gold Dot 38+P SB in mine, but sometimes upgrade to 357.

Have you tried an SP-101? Some claim that it's the smallest .357 that's truly shootable with 125s. I haven't tried one, myself.
I haven't tried the SP-101 other than to occasionally fondle one at the store. A friend of mine carries one in .357 Magnum. He shoots and carries full power 158s in it. I think he's half nuts, but he can bang away with it and keep the shots where they need to go. Grip definitely feels a lot "friendlier" and more recoil absorbing than that of a Smith snubbie.

I had a crimson trace laser grip

on my sp101 357, but it's not comfortable to shoot.
A houge grip makes the hottest 357 a comforting thump.
