Sigh.

Ah well, I guess it's been a couple of months since this has come up, so we must be due.

Anyway, see:

In any case, after over 30 years practicing law, I have some understanding of how the legal system works. I won't use handloads for self defense.

Yeah. Not like this hasn't been beaten to death already.

In the real world? Probably not. BUT, we do a lot of things to keep ourselves safe that defy probability. JHP ammo probably won't perform much differently than FMJ. Most guns will work for most people most of the time, but we still test them before we carry them. The odds that you will ever need to shoot someone in self defense are small, but we do it anyway.

This question is next to "Will mods on my carry gun get me in trouble?" and "Is 10mm too big to carry?" and "If I make a flippant remark about violence in a gun forum will it haunt me later?" These are all things that are so gray as to make them iffy for EITHER side to argue in court. But if you have a prosecutor who is trying to make a name for himself, and a judge who has been sleeping on the couch for a while, there are absolutely no guarantees. If they have a very weak case, but just won't give up, then they break out the silly stuff. Why do anything that could cause MORE trouble?

Allan Fish got a new trial. I bet he would have preferred no trial at all. But at least he is here to dispute it. This "I would rather be judged by twelve than carried by six" philosophy has a flip side. You may well be judged by twelve.

And one thing these have in common is that they are avoidable or manageable. You don't have to make it harder on yourself.

{BTW, I think you mean Harold Fish.)
