I've only been carrying sence the winter,so carrying in the heat is new to me.I carry an SP101 in a belt holster, between my belt and pants. The last few days it's been 95 w/ 100% humidity, and I've been sweating like Ike Turner at a NOW meeting.I've noticed a little water(sweat) on my gun near the top of the grip.I wipe it off often, but my question is will this eventually cause a problem(like pitting or rust).I'm not too worried about rust now that I think about it because it's sainless steel. But will I have other problems??Thanks:cool:

Not much to worry about with a stainless Ruger SP101. May get some salt rings - but no permanent damage - and easily wiped off. Don't worry about it. That's why they made it in stainless steel. You could practically use it for a salt water boat anchor and not wear it out.

Stainless steel tends to be less tolerant than blue steel of being dry though - so occasional oiling of moving parts is a good thing.

nemesis has good advice,
The gun may be stainless on the outside, but the springs and things inside are not. Clean them often and keep the gun lubed and you should have no trouble.

The stainless used in guns not totally impervious to rust. The most susseptable are bead blast area and matte, as the rough surface provides collection for mosture. (my springfield 1911 stainless had rustspots
"pop up" in beadblast dust cover area.) Does'nt 101 trigger assm pull out relatively easily? If so check and lube occassionally. Using non-abrasive car wax may help too. I couldn't hurt.

Stainless rusts. Wax is good. It seals out moisture, but doesn't feel slippery, and resists being wiped off with casual use. It's also won't deactivate primers, like oil can (extreme cases).

SC Johnson Paste Wax is good for a lot of things.

Good advice above.

When you carry a gun in close body contact, moisture can and will rust even "stainless" steel.

In very hot, humid weather, I've often checked a waist-holstered gun and found it almost completely covered with tiny droplets of moisture. This just EATS gun metal.

Waxing with auto wax or Johnson's Paste wax, or keeping a thin coat of a high-grade rust-proofing lube like CLP Breakfree is a must.

The best defense is to check your gun NO LESS than once every night, after the gun comes off for the day. Let it go two days, and it can develop rust.

Check under the grips, OFTEN, and keep wax or lube under them.

I keep a cotton cleaning patch and a bottle of CLP in a small plastic dish in my nightstand drawer. When the gun comes off and goes into the GunVault, it just takes a few seconds to give it a thorough wipe-down. Takes a big bite out of the inconvenience of daily rust prevention.

I have started wearing a coolmax running singlet under my shirts when I carry IWB. The Coolmax fabric seems to help keep my skin from being rubbed by the grips and keeps the pistol dry.
