I currently have two carry guns, a Taurus 24/7 pro .40 when I have suitable clothing, and a Taurus 745 when I don't. I occasionally take them to the range just to keep up, but sometimes they can see 5-6 months without any action. I use hopps gun grease for the slides and m1 pro for anything else that needs oil. My question is how often should I re lubricate an unfired sidearm?

Disagree depends on where you live. I clean and lube my carry gun once a week because of the humidity.

If I still carried my .357 I would probably have the same schedule as I live in Houston Texas, but I was wondering if the "plastic" guns needed as much attention.

I oil my carry gun whenever i feel it is drying out. Howwever its a glock so it doesn't need alot of oiling. I use rem Oil and it seems to work preatty good. Goes on clear doesn't stink.

If it's been sitting for while you may want to field strip it and see if the oil has migrated. Other than that you shouldn't need to.

I disagree.

CCW guns get full of Belly-Button lint & sweaty on a regular basis.

You should clean & oil them at least once a month I would think.

It takes just ten minutes to perform a quick disassembly, "wipe-down" and "lube" once every 30 days to keep your CCW up and running when you need it most.

Keeping such a "maintenance schedule" allows you to function check your sidearm and make sure that no lint or "unidentifiable stuff" accumulates in and interferes with your CCW's function. It is a relatively small investment in time to assure that your equipment is ready when you need it most.

I use Mobil 1 20w50 applied sparingly with a swab on my Glock 17 and it is always there when "wash day" comes around again.
