Trying to decide on a new carry gun, and i know alot of it is how it feels. Currently i carry a G19 but find that its a little to wide for me carry. To give a little more info, i have a bit of a spare tire midsection. Caliber doesnt matter alot but i would like to stay at or above 9mm. I carry everywhere i can legally. Dont wear really loose or tight clothing, and dont really care if its a semi auto or wheel gun. To be honest i leaning towards an SP101, but any suggestions would help. Also anyone carry a full sized 1911?

A few options to consider:

* Ruger SR9C compact in 9mm is narrower than Glock 19
* Ruger SP101 3"
* Ruger LCR

May want to switch holsters and/or carry positions as well.

tried a couple different holsters and positions, the G19 always seems to print. Can carry at work but my work shirts a little more snug than i would like. Tried carrying with my belt tightened and just stuck in it in the small of back but i dont feel safe with one in the chamber like that

Dont have specs on hand but can say that I love mine. It is very similar in size to a Sig 239. Slim, compact, fits my large hands great, and the option to have 10 or 17 round magazine. Also has a manual safety, which I am NOT a fan of, but sounds like you may be interested in it.

Just my 2 cents.

Also anyone carry a full sized 1911

I carry both fullsize and commander sized 1911s. If you do not like the width of a G19 that is your best bet. I also carry a G19 on occasion.

On the SR9, Ruger says that the widest portion (beyond the slide) is 1.27". Glock claims their G17, 19, & 26 has a SLIDE width of 1.18", but doesn't provide a measurement of the total width like Ruger does. Suffice it to say that a Glock 19 has a total width greater than 1.27".

This difference is measuring parameters throws the consumer off because in comparing the two side by side, you can easily see from a distance that the SR9 is slimmer. Check it out at your local gun shop for first hand confirmation.

I hear you--any double stack is too fat for me.

I sometimes carry a Commander sized 1911, and occasionally a Government sized one. But for me, 1911s are winter carry, when I am wearing long pants and a sweatshirt/jacket/etc.

Since I live in TX, sweatshirt use starts late Oct/early Nov and ends by mid-April.

The rest of the year, I carry a Kahr P45 IWB. Weighs about 18.5 oz, thin as a 1911 and if I do my part shoots just as well from 25 feet.

BTW, we are well into Nov, I'm wearing a sweatshirt now but still carrying my P45 :)

Kahr all the way.

They've pretty much got a nice niche going on slim, light weight, high quality 9mm to .45 concealed carry semiautos.

The Walther PPS would qualify, too.

lots of info on carry, I personally carry a pocket gun, goes with me, just drops in
If I feel like, or if I'm going somewhere I want more, I put on my other carry gun.

Like many people here I have tried many combinations of holsters (IWB) and handguns trying to find the perfect configuration of fit, comfort and draw speed potential while maintaining the caliber desired. I like to carry a .45 - 1911's usually, but recently (a little less than a year) I've been carrying a Kahr .45 in a Crossbreads IWB holster. This is the most comfortable combo I've found. The Crossbreads spreads the weight out while the Kahr allows me to maintain the caliber I desire - most of the time I don't even know it's there. Anyway - my 2 cents.

Have you considered a Springfield Armory EMP? You could stay with 9mm and have the dimensions of a subcompact 1911.

My Glock 19 prints in everything but an IWB holster. My little Bersa Thunder 380 CCW is a great pocket gun that is pretty reliable.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Looks like I'm gonna have to get 2 new guns, dang, anyone have something they might wanna trade for a G19 :)

The SP 101 is a good choice but recoil with full magnum loads can be nasty. Using +P .38 Specials or midrange magnum loads would be easier to control. Personally, I just carry a Smith Airweight .38 in the pocket. It fits into my lifestyle easily without making a fuss. Any of the snubbies will require a lot of practice before gaining confidence in your accuracy.

Over the past 30 years I have literally carried EVERYTHING under the sun, either as an LEO or a civie. I ALWAYS go back to a 1911. Currently, I CCW an SA Lightweight Champion Loaded .45ACP.
