I live in NC can I have a carry in my truck or car gun that I just carry with me and leave it in my car or truck. I dont have a ccw permit. Or do I have to have a permit to just have it in my car of course unloaded.

If its not in plain view and on or about your person (which basically means you can access it from the driver's seat), then you need a CHP. It doesn't matter whether it is loaded or not.

The NC Highway Patrol website says that it is the Attorney General's opinion that a handgun in a locked glove box is not a concealed weapon, but the glove box must be locked, otherwise it is.

The best way to be safe is either have the weapon in plain view, or better yet, get a CHP so you don't have to worry about it.

The requirements are interesting. You can place the handgun on your dash and drive around and through town and be legal. Cover it with a cloth and you are illegal. Logically, they should require the weapon not to be conspicous (laying on the dash). It occurs to me that if you parked and was going shopping for a few minutes, you would cover the handgun (where ever it is) to not entice theft. Wonder if that is illegal?

You can conceal a handgun in a car when you are not in the car. Its not on or near your person then. Your illegal for about 3 seconds while you try to exit the car I guess :banghead:. I just keep them in the trunk.
