Hey guys new guy here on the board. Just wondering who here is carrying a SP101 for thier EDC. If so what holster are you using and what is the comfort level?

Right now Im carrying a XD45 service in a crossbreed supertuck. Its not bad but man is it hefty. Thought about a LCR in .357 but I know that the whomping that thing is going to have shooting full load .357 out of it will be like stick of dynamite in your hand. So Im thinking about the sp101. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The SP101 is a really great carry gun for a belt holster of some time. Too heavy for other methods for the most part. You will soon get used to the weight and you will be happy it is that heavy if you shoot it much. Built like a tank-wonderful gun IMHO.

I use a Silver Dollar Pancake for belt carry....hard to beat in my opinion. I also use a Supertuck when discretion dictates. My SP is a 3 1/16 inch which I prefer over the shorter barrel. As for the LCR, load it with .38 + P's and it's a fine shooting gun, great trigger and very light.

I've carried a Ruger SP101, loaded with .357 magnums, for 8+ years. I use a Galco high-ride open-top pancake hol;ster, OSWB, on strongside.
Last year, when they came out, I bought LCR, .357 mag. and an LCR .38 special.
The .38 special LCR is a little lighter and makes an excellent pocket gun.
I slip the .357 magnum LCR into the same holster I carry the SP101 in. Yeah, it kicks some with 125 gr. loads. It's not bad with 110 gr., 357 mag. loads though. And, I feel better off with those than the .38+P's. It's a lot lighter to carry all day, too.
To each his own.

I'm not getting rid of my SP101's, though.

I carry my 3" SP101 at 4 oclock if I'm out walking around, or at 9 oclock, cross draw, if I'll be sitting down and standing up a lot. You know like getting in and out of a vehicle a bunch. I carry it in a Galco IWB holster, but 9 oclock carry leaves me with a sore and tender spot by the end of the day. I'm a pretty lean fellow (6'3" and 195 lbs.) I have plenty of muscle on my hip, but little padding of other types in that area. For this reason, I'm looking at a Crossbreed holster. I love my SP101. I have a CT laser for it for carry and a set of Badger grips for the range.

FYI, if you wear light, and form fitting athletic clothing in the summer time, the SP101 is a bit hard to conceal. I typically tuck my shirts in, so IWB carry is a little...... well, impossible really. It is also a bit to big to carry in the pocket, so as a result, I just picked up a S&W 642 Airweight for pocket carry. If you don't tuck your shirts in, then this shouldn't be a problem. It did provide me with an excuse to buy another gun. Hmmmmm twist my arm........

At the range the SP101 handles full power loads with no problem, and is surprisingly accurate for a 3" bbl. I can tag a soda can at 50' with it all day long. Also, if you want to shine it up, wonders can be done to the finish on an SP101 with Mother's Mag Polish. It'll be among the best $450 to $500 you will ever spend.

I frequently carry a S&W 627, 2.625" barrel. This is the 8 round .357 model so the cylinder is large. I carry this in an Enhanced Pancake from Lobo Gun Leather.

Ray Cory (owner) is a solid guy to work with and his leather work is outstanding.
I have two complete rigs and one of which is worn very day. Very comfortable and keeps the gun tucked in close.
4-5 week wait for delivery.

I carry the 2 1/4" DAO sp101 at 4 o'clock in a crossbreed supertuck. It is great! It's comfortable, quick and discreet. I'm tall and leanish and I forget it's there.

I use two holsters a friend/gunsmith/leatherworker crafted up for me. One is a IWB with a belt clip (though now that I use a thicker belt I am having him mak an identical one with belt loops), and the other is a SOB with a thumb break. I tend to use the IWB more often as Virginia weather is random thorughout the week but with a jacket the SOB disappears.

Mine is the 3 1/16" variant with a Trijicon front sight, badger grips, and a Wolff spring kit installed. Mine is loaded with 125 gr. Golden Sabers.

Just my .02.

I carry my Ruger SP101 with the 2" barrel in a Don Hume IWB that has the metal clips that hook onto your belt. The holster cost $40.00 and it's very comfortable and secure. I have a Ruger SP101 in the 3" configuration and will be soon getting the same Don Hume holster for it. I like the heft of a Ruger and the fact I can shoot the heck out of it. I have XS sites on my 3" and plan to shoot it in IDPA.
