Carrying a Spare Mag?

The past couple of years Ive been using a couple like this....

Works great, and its very comfortable. Much more so than any of the other IWB type carriers Ive used in the past. Theres basically no bulk, and the mag/carrier can move with you, yet it stays in place with no issues.

I used to use a Desantis double carrier on my belt, and they work great too, but they dont hide near as well as these, and since I switched to AIWB, everything is now up front, and they dont work there.

I agree that a 'prolonged' gunfight is unlikely, however...more and more incidents involving more than one aggressor are happening these days. So capacity 'could' be a factor.

Domestic terrorism cost three lives and 14 wounded on Thursday, 2/25, in smalltown in the middle of the heartland U.S.A. For those of us that have ties to Hesston, Kansas or live in the area the attitude that it can't happen here has forever changed. One resolute man while under fire from the terrorist returned fire accurately and ended the shooting spree.

Just having a gun may no longer be enough. A second magazine may well be as important as the belt on your pants. For us "blue jean" type guys belt pouch with a flap is very convenient and secure.

"Leatherman pouch"

Bingo - I carry my spare mag in a Leatherman pouch fully exposed and have never been questioned or busted. Sometimes hiding in plain sight is the best place to hide.

I have 2 sizes - one small one for my single stack 6 shot when I pocket carry my Kahr CM9 and a larger one for when I carry a double stack (various) IWB.

Get the true "Leatherman" pouches, with the Leatherman logo, as they are much more "believable"

I thought that guy was a garden variety loony, upset about a restraining order or something? When did it get upgraded to "domestic terrorism"?

"Leatherman pouch"
I used one for a little while, until someone asked to borrow my "Leatherman". Stopped using it right after that.

Something to keep in mind too with the knife pouches, since so many these days dont carry a knife of their own. Im asked quite a bit by people at work to use mine.

My carry gun is usually a Kahr P9. The Kahr mags are well known for their tendency to pop the top round off in your pocket. After a particularly energetic day I could have 2-3 loose rounds in my pocket. I made this out of a couple of pieces of scrap leather to solve the problem:

It's dipped in hot paraffin to make it stiff and there's a thickening strip sewn along the bottom. It keeps the mag standing up and accessible in my left front pocket.

I typically carry a real Leatherman in a pouch on my belt already. Would look rather silly of my to have two pouches on my left side. My knife stays clipped to my right side front pocket. Anything on my body that has the potential to be "borrowed" is easier to see.
