Carrying with Overalls?

For years now I've been wearing carharts overalls while doing outdoor work, or just around town. I love them, but I've never been able to find a good carry method with them. The best I can manage is a shoulder rig with a cover shirt. Putting a belt on defeats their purpose and gets in the way, and while they have many useful straps and such on them, these are designed for hammers and such and don't really hold a handgun.

Anyone come up with other solutions for this?
 
When I wear bib coveralls without a shirt, or with a T-shirt underneath, the "thunderwear" rig really works well. There is another thread here about thunderwear, use the search.

You guys chop down trees, clean out kennels, move straw, haul trash etc. etc. with belly bands or thunderwear? I always pictured those as more limited to casual or suit & tie wear, not yard work.
 
With bibs I use one of the Fox Ridge holsters that are ment for an unscoped T/C contender.On me it places my redhawk right in the middle of my chest.Aint never had it get in the way like that.

I have an airweight hammerless wheelie (can't rememver model number off hand) that i put in a nylon pocket holster. Comfortable and easy reach. It's not my Kimber Tac Pro accuracy, but it beats throwing rocks.
 
When outside in the woods cutting firewood I carry a Taurus 94 in a small belly bag under my bib overalls. I used to use my smartcarry but I got too much condensation on the gun. I put a pull ring on the zipper of the bag for faster access. Keeps dirt and sawdust out of the gun too.:cool:
 
seems like that would be a good candidate for a smartcarry so you can practice aiming at your johnson. :p

D'oh, V-fib already commented on smartcarry. I didn't read that one first.

Are you looking for concealment? I think you could sew (or have sewn) a nylon rig to the inside of the bib for your Ruger. Wher a chest holster would go. Perhaps the same thing down the side seam on the inside for a more hip-ular carry.

If concealment isn't an issue it'd be the work of a moment to put a few "GI belt" type grommets in the fabric where a hip holster would go and hang a holster off there. You could sew a piece of fabric on the inside to keep the hooks from abrading you.

I guess what I'm saying is turn the garment itself into the carry system rather than finding one to wear with it.
 
Carebear--that's a great idea. I'm looking to be able to carry fairly large full-size handguns for working around in the sticks or fishing, but at the same time it's a PINA to have to conceal when going into town if it's hot and I don't want to wear a cover shirt. A hybrid chest holster inside the flap would be great, esp if the weight is carried by the straps. I'm going to experiment around.
 
when i wear carhartts working/hunting i pull them on over my normal pants, which have a belt. Then I just ride my standard Bianchi Cobra Tactical T6500 Tac Holster LT holster out the buttons on the right side. it seems to ride just right and hangs down below where the buttons are, nice and secure.just dont worry about doing up those buttons and you dont lose much heat.

If you wanted to carry concealed you could do the same thing with the buttons lose and the gun inside the carharts, just put a light jacket or shirt over the whole thing. And this way you can carry a full size piece in comfort.
 
I use my Carhart overalls as an over the regular clothes (jeans/shirt) type thing, especially the insulated ones in the winter. Just carry in the regular position on my belt at 3:00 and leave the side buttons undone with the grip sticking out. Of course if I am wearing a coat too then the gun will be covered by that.

I don't wear shorts anymore either - I guess I figure that if I need to carry the gun/knife/flashlight etc then I better just wear my jeans and belt with all the hardware.

I am thinking about getting some chainsaw chaps, not to protect my legs from being cut so much as to keep my jeans cleaner when cutting wood. Wearing even the uninsulated Carhart bibs is too hot unless the temp is under 50 deg F.

But I would think that you could carry a snubbie (don't you have an SP101???) in a front or hip bib overall pocket would work fine, too - those pockets are pretty darn deep compared to just jeans. I dunno about all the sawdust though .... :uhoh:
 
The problem with pocket carry is there's so much other crud in the overalls and the front pockets need to be available for nails, bolts and other things.

Liberty overalls are tactical. A Glock 19 will completely conceal in each hip pocket. Cut a piece of cardboard just small enough to fit inside the pocket,and place the G19's in the pockets behind the cardboard.
Two 31 round Glock 18 mags will fill easily,side by side ,in the utility pocket on the leg of the overalls. In the large bibb pocket,a steel trauma plate,with a Kahr PM9 in the small bibb pocket.
The legs are cut big. Your choice,probably a snub, on each ankle. The possibilities go on and on.
