My son just brought up a point to me I thought I would share:

Many cartridges are named for something fearsome; .577 Tyranosaur, .349 Warbird, .41 Avenger, and so on.

How come there's never a .286 Lambykins?

I personally think WW would have avoided a great deal of angry publicity if, instead of Black Talon, they had anodized the jackets pink and called the ammo "Daisy Petal".

And on the subject, why do all the new rounds have three significant numbers? For instance, I would have called the ".300 Whisper" the ".3 whisper" (lower case intentional.) I mean, it is a little dinky round, right?

Just some rambling and light-hearted thoughts at about midnight.

lol
Because no mall-ninja would be caught dead toting something chambered in .286 Lambykins!

There was a thread over on TFL on this topic where someone said
In fact, if I win the lottery I'm going to come out with a line of the most devastating defense ammo technology can create, and I'm going to call it... "Soft White Fuzzy Bunny Puffs"!!!

If I ever design a cartridge larger than 6.5mm, it's going to be a nearly straightwalled version of the 350 Rem Mag and I'm going to call it the .500 Pussycat. I'm completely serious! It'll fire a 750 Gr bullet at about 1,200 fps or a 450 Gr bullet at about 1,600 fps. The 750 grainer should do at 300 or 400 yards what the 50 BMG can do at 2,500 yards but with one fifth the recoil and the 450 Gr load would be fine for any NA game out to 100 yards easy. Plus if could be made in about a 9 lb rifle... I'l probably have to use dense wood for the stocj because there won't be much metal in the barrel. ;)

Insects

There are the insect calibers. .218Bee, 219Wasp, .22Hornet and the .22rimfire yellowjackets and stingers. While they have names of things that are painful, they are not of the caliber (pun intended) of the .510magnum Mauler. Quantrill

I think anything less than 416 is a Lambykins.

Here is a 45 that lives up to the name., 458 Hubel Express.
It moves out.500 gr bullet over 2800fps.350 gr 3500fps.Ed.

Well there is the Whisper name for a few calibers, the 6 mm Thermos Bottle, .243 Catbird, 6.71 mm Blackbird, and the Peabody calibers.

Every time I read/hear Peabody, I always think of Mr. Peabody, you know, the one with the Wayback machine and has a boy named Sherman.

I'm glad this thread wasn't abo DELETED.
I would have had to post a diatribe about incorrect nomenclature.
Which would have gotten me banned I'm sure. :uhoh:
Boy am I lucky.:D

Like everyone is saying,

it's all marketing. Seriously, no one would buy a round called 'Soft White Fuzzy Bunny Puffs'. Now to make sales, you would need an aggressive sounding name. Something like 'Soft White Fuzzy Bunny Puffs Super X Magnum'. See the difference?

I'll take a box of Bunny Magnums.

And a box of Gerbil Express, please.

Do you have cleaning patches in a floral print? How 'bout lemon scent?

Not likely, but are YOU gonna laugh at a guy that just bought a box of .50 Bunny Mags?

There's a Monty Python skit here, I just know it.
