Casings Ejecting Straight Back Into Face

Hi all,

Just bought a Glock 30. Took it out today and several times the ejected casings came right back and hit me on the head! Never experienced that before. Is this an issue with the Gun or am I doing something to cause it? Thanks in advance.

Seriously, it can be the way you're shooting, like limp-writing it or somesuch. try revising your style and see if it persists.

When I start getting popped int he forehead with brass its usually after I've been shooting a long time. I pay attention to my wrist and its back out to the side again.

You might just need to tune the ejector and extractor a little - get a decent 'smith to do it for you.

Dump the Glock

Get you a nice .357 revolver and you will never have that nasty old brass problem ever again.

I second Soybomb's suggestion. Watch your grip and wrist tension.
Just to be sure, get a revolver anyway. Everyone needs at least one.

I hate getting the casings into my face too

As for spent cases my 97B ejects them everywhere!!!! I maybe recover 1/3 of my brass with that one. The random hot cases in the face and eyes and down the shirt or shoes is good combat response training though as for a constant stream of brass to the face, or if you prefer the terminology "brass shower" it only encourages flinching and masochistic behavior.

It may change with use or even a different loading/brand or else you may need a little tuning. Owners of Glocks may have experience advice that may be useful, I know it's common on my CZ97 and a few have done something about it, I haven't been bothered about it enough yet.

There was a guy I knew who had a 1911 that did that in the army .He would aim, tip his head down, fire, and the case would hit the helmet !!!

Thank God for eye protection. I had a casing land on the side of my leg; got stuck between the skin and shorts...left a semi-burn.

SNAFU - Glock

Glock is working correctly. Standard equip for range day at PD is eyes, ears, and BALLCAP. If its working right about half will hit the brim of your hat and bounce off. Trust me, you'll get used to it.

My G23 never fired a case back and hit me in the head! Nevertheless when shooting this pistol I WILL be wearing eye protection.

That's the one thing which irks me about my Glock 17: the shower of hot brass casings. I recommend safety glasses as I do not want to risk a 'smith mucking around with my otherwise completely reliable pistol. Note: my pistol doesn't consistantly hit me with brass - but on occasion, whether it be the wind or a particular casing, I must do the dance.

My point is this: are the ejected casings common enough to merit the expense and possible detrimental reliability issues? If so, then by all means, have it sent back and fixed. Else, well, wear a T-shirt and glasses!

I have a Pardini GT-45 in 45 ACP which has a tendency with mild loads to eject them, over the top. I always shoot with a baseball cap so no head injuries but once in a while a hot piece of brass bounces and rolls into a shirt opening at the neck.

Before I got hit with a shell, I thought it wouldn't hit hard. I was wrong. I went to the car to get a drink, I had came back and my dad was shooting my mak. I started walking and the case hit me right above the eye. Surprised the heck out of me.




Try turning the gun sideways.

My friend has a luger and its ejection port is on the top. Its particularly fun to shoot because you never know where the brass is gonna go. I've had it actually hit the gun itself after it ejects straight up. Fun stuff.
