Dale, feral cats in town or near town oughta be caught in a HavAHart and taken to animal control. I don't think any of us cat-shooters have any problem with that.
But out in rural country, none of the objections you have raised are pertinent to the problem or to our solution. Between buzzards and coyotes and ants, a cat carcass lasts maybe an hour or so--if that.
And where I live, a dead cow is dry, white bones in under two weeks. There's nothing left at all except bones. No meat, no skin...Not even hooves. Call it "Desert re-cycling".
