Hey Folks,

Wondering if anyone has any experience loading ultralite, light weight bullet, rounds for 44 mag and/or special?

I have some really nice mild pet loads for my 200 gr RNFP and 208 gr WC using 4.3-5 grains Red Dot & Bullseye.

But would like something even lighter for the 162 gr WC's and 172gr RN's. (I have worked up some loads also in the 4.3-5 gr range using RD & BE). But thinking a really light, quiet load would be nice for close range rabbits and squirrels around the lot. Not sure if I'll encounter backed out primers by going below that 4 grain mark? Also have a 116 gr WC but not sure they'll be stable at anything outside the closest of ranges.

To that end, I figured I'd see if anyone has messed around with a similar feather weight load.

I've got Red Dot, Bullseye, Blue Dot and Unique on hand, but am open to any other better suited powders.

Will be running them through a 2.5" Bulldog, 4" 629 and 7.5" SBH.

Thanks in advance!

My Mouse Fart load is heavier than yours. 8.0gr HP-38 under 240gr MBC 44 Mag HT-430240M TCFP. Very mild, good accuracy, but shoots 3" high out of my 6.5" 629 at 15yds, so 6 o'clock hold for these, please.

I use 4.4gr of either clays or bullseye pushing that same 162gr bullet with excellent results. Same for a double end 175gr wc I shoot in the 44spl's.

There's no reason reddot or bullseye in the 4.2gr/4.4gr range wouldn't work with that 162gr bullet in the 44spl cases.

I step up to a 200gr & 245gr wc when using 44mag cases along with 6.0gr of clays or bullseye.

Thanks for the replies fellas. Much appreciated.

Forrest R- You ever try sub 4gr charges with that 162 gr pill? Like you, I've gotten nice results with 4.3-4.5 gr of BE. I'm thinking something like a 22 CB cap on steroids type load for the 44 if that makes sense? Of course, this may end up being another one of my cockamamie ideas too! LOL!

Be well

No when I started getting into the 3.8gr/4.0gr range the cases started getting soot on 1 side. Bad seal equals bad accuracy. In the +/- 4.2gr range the cases sealed & at the 4.4gr range the groups shrank.

Ya, kinda what I was thinking might happen. Glad I asked. I'll stick with my known loads for that little WC and save my time, lead and powder instead of proceeding with this folly. LOL. Appreciate the responses.

On a more logical note, I just picked up a few hundred 200 gr Gold Dots that I think will be just the ticket for a SD house load in the Bulldog. Gonna go with Speer's suggested 7.8gr on Unique.

One way or another I'm hitting that loading bench today. ;)

Thanks again and enjoy the rest of the weekend.
