It is illegal to carry on campus at my college, and being the law abiding citizen that I am, I follow the rules. There is no way that I would ever sneak my carry on campus for a number of reasons. Besides the obvious consequences, I am an EMT student and in that "hand-on" environment, I am sure that I would eventually be found out. Each doorway on each building on campus is plastered with the "defense-free zone" signs. I work 8-5 everyday and immediately drive to campus to attend night classes 4 nights a week. I have my CCL so I carry about everywhere that I go, so here is my question: Is it against the law to keep mine in the car with one in the pipe while on campus? I do not have time to go home to drop it off, so it must stay in the car.

When I was in school the test for pt. assesment (secondary survey) was to tape two nickles to the "pt." if you didn't find the you failed. Your gun would get found your first day in class
Aren't against the law and against school rules 2 different things? Maybe it's a state thing but I thought the federal law against firearms where on government run schools. A private college has every right to make their own gun rules but it may not be against the law. My point being, if that is the case most schools are all different and keeping a weapon locked in a car in the parking lot may be a rule that's different from school to school.

I believe that state colleges fall under the school jurisdiction and you can't carry there. I don't live in kansas though.

In Indiana as soon as you get out of your car you have legally brought a gun into a gun free zone and have committed a felony. Dont do it as no excuse will hold any water. Even if the gun is completely broken down and locked you could still be arrested for a felony. It isn't worth it. Get a good knife and be done with it, but that's all your going to get away with.

I can always have one loaded in my car in Mississippi, with or without my TN permit. I can walk across Univ of Alabama, inside the buildings, or go to a game with a handgun and break no law in Alabama, as long as I have my TN permit. See how funny each state is different? It is best to check your state's penal code and the ones you travel to see what is legal and what is not.

Pay a Courtesy Call on Campus Security
Here's what I did. I went to campus security and asked for the chief. Had a nice down-home conversation, very polite with Yes Sir thrown in. I said that I'm not carrying right now but that I have a CCW permit and normally carry. I said that I'd like permission in writing to carry and that I felt uncomfortable about leaving my sidearm (I never call it a g..g..g..g..g..gun) in the vehicle where it might be stolen.
The chief was very nice, and wrote me a 'Waiver and Permission' letter, signed it and asked me to keep it with my CCW permit while on campus. That was that.

Depends on 2 things. Private school or state run school? And what do your specific state's laws say? Owners (or the people in charge) of private property can always forbid firearms however they want. Most states even say in their laws that a CCW permit is not valid for private property where firearms are forbidden.
If it's a state school, it depends on the state. Some states allow state owned and run colleges and universities to forbid or restrict firearms, some do not. For example, The Uiversity of Utah, in Salt Lake City, has been trying for some time to forbid firearms, but the state Attorney General insists they have to obey the laws just like any other public place, including respecting CCW permits.
As for leaving it in a car, again states differ. Florida until recently had a law flatly forbidding leaving a firearm in a locked vehicle. Utah, on the other hand, allows even non-CCW permit holders to have unloaded firearms in vehicles, although handguns must be in a locked container or compartment and may not have any ammo locked in the same place.
Bottom line, it depends on your state's laws, except for private schools, where they can do just about whatever they want with firearms. Check campus security, if they say you truly cannot carry, or cannot leave it locked in the car, ask them politely for the specific references to the state law that governs it, and make sure they're giving you accurate information..

you're an EMT - you should know plenty of police. Ask them - they'll let you know.
In addition you can check with your school's legal aid department.

event any firearm in the possession of any person,
other than a law enforcement officer, when
so requested or directed by any duly authorized
school employee or any law enforcement officer.
(b) Subsection (a)(5) shall not apply to:
(1) Possession of any firearm in connection
with a firearms safety course of instruction or
firearms education course approved and authorized
by the school;
(2) any possession of any firearm specifically
authorized in writing by the superintendent of
any unified school district or the chief administrator
of any accredited nonpublic school;
(3) possession of a firearm secured in a motor
vehicle by a parent, guardian, custodian or
someone authorized to act in such person's behalf
who is delivering or collecting a student; or
(4) possession of a firearm secured in a motor
vehicle by a registered voter who is on the
school grounds, which contain a polling place for
the purpose of voting during polling hours on an
election day.

It is an arrestable offense. Campus rentacops bust people for that here quite often... Really, it is NOT worth it. Even leaving it in your vehicle is technically a violation but why would anyone have the reason to search that?

No, there is no federal law banning carry in state-owned schools. I carry at WSU all the time.

That is true. It is legal in WA, although you will be expelled if anyone finds out. There is no federal law banning it, but state laws vary and it may or may not be illegal in Kansas.
