i thought here a while back i saw a post saying not to shoot stingers out of a Ruger target pistol....
i cant seem to find the post and was wondering if anyone knows what might be the problem with the stingers...?

Though I can't quote the specific reason you're thinking of for the Ruger pistol. I believe the 22 Stinger has a case that is a little bit longer than the standard 22lr, therefore can run into feeding or extractions issues.

I've got some right here.

Yep, the case is a little longer, while overall length (to end of bullet) is the same. Guess it could cause a problem.

I've been using them in a revolver, no issues there.

I've never had any problems with CCI Stingers in any of the 22 autos I've owned over the last 30 years. But, I have had ftf and misfires with Remington and Federal bulk pak 22's.

Stingers won't work properly in guns with match chambers. Some of the high-end 10/22 barrels can be had with either match or sport chambers, you decide which when you order. But the vast majority of standard, factory .22s will have no problems with them.

There may be an issue that I'm unaware of, but I've been shooting Stingers in Mk I, Mk ll since they were introduced with no difficulties. Yes, the Stinger case is 1/10 of an inch longer, which I thought every one was aware of, in fact that is why the .17 Mach II uses the Stinger case.;)

I have a 10/22 Target model with the heavy, hammer forged bbl and match chamber. The manual specificly states that I'm NOT to use CCI Stingers.

The Stinger case is 1/10 of an inch longer than regular 22lr ammo and the bullet and or case may engage the rifling when chambered in a target type chamber causing extreme pressure when fired. To test this chamber a round, making sure not to fire it, and then extract it as if it was fired. If the bullet and or case has marks from the rifling then do not use. Do the same with a regular 22lr round and see the difference.
It is not a target load.
Just FYI, I understand the Stinger case is used for 17 MachII ammo as the longer case allows for the round to be necked down and still keep the correct overall length.

American made .22LR firearms use a chamber 'cut' to SAAMI specs...

CCI Stingers should work fine in these chambers since CCI designed the Stinger with a slightly longer case than standard .22LR ammunition to work in the SAAMI chamber...

Many European firearms use a slightly different chamber, and you can run into functioning problems with them if you try to shoot Stingers in them...

Well, I guess there issues that I was unaware of, perhaps I should read the manuals. However Stingers work in my firearms and I really see no reason not to use them.

The Ruger 10/22 manual plainly states NOT to use Stingers in the "Target" version of the 10/22, due to the chamber tolerances.

Ahh, here it is..copy-n-paste from the Ruger 10/22 manual:

“Stinger” cartridges have a longer case
than 22 LR cartridges loaded to U.S.
Industry specifications. They can stick
in the tighter chambers of target rifles,
including the Ruger 10/22 Target Rifle,
which can result in a hazardous
ruptured case and release of hot
powder gasses and brass when fired.

DO NOT USE
“STINGER” AMMUNITION IN
10/22 TARGET RIFLES

All you have to do is chamber a round and see if the rifling marks the bullet and or case. If it marks the bullet a very small amount it may not matter but if it marks the case there is a problem waiting to happen if fired.
Same principle as in reloading, OAL is important!

Thanks for the feedback...
the majority of the research ive done seems to show that stingers are fine to fire out of the MK11 ruger target pistol.
i guess the target rifles are diffrent

Love Stingers

The Stinger case is slightly longer than on most .22 LR ammo. I see no other POSSIBLE problems with Stingers. They function perfectly in my .22 Ruger Mark III Competition pistol. Stingers are pure FUN to shoot. cliffy
