here's a link to a thread at Packing.org for a gathering at the MN Capitol stairs to celebrate and get some positive exposure for the MN CCW anniversary. April 28th at noon.

See you there :)

Carrying a gun at the capitol is not legal... UNLESS you send them a simple notification. Then, it's just dandy.

On his blog (http://www.livejournal.com/users/joelrosenberg/), joelr includes handy-dandy instructions for notifying the state that you will carry at the capitol.

By the way, here's the full text of the announcement of the party/rally, from http://www.mcppa.info/ :

It's time to celebrate.

April 28th 2004 is the first anniversary of the final passage and signing into law of the Minnesota Citizens Personal Protection Act.

It's time to celebrate. There'll be a cake.

With the upcoming elections in November, this is a terrific opportunity to take the message to the Capitol and to the press that the MCPPA has been a huge success -- and that opposing had a huge political cost.

We'll be gathering on the steps of the Capitol at noon on April 28th. Please be there, and bring friends and children. While the press will shoot pictures of the sparsely-attended anti-self defense rallies that carefully avoid showing that only a handful of people showed up, we can't expect such slanted treatment; we need to turn out in numbers.

Yes, I know that most of our people have day jobs, and that getting a day off isn't an easy thing to do. Honest, I do.

But it's important. Legislators have to be reminded that supporting self-defense issues in particular and gun issues in general -- including Range Preservation every bit as much as the MCPPA -- is a winning strategy.

So please be there.

I'm organizing this on behalf of CCRN, and there will be public updates on my livejournal , as the time approaches -- I'll let you know who the speakers are going to be, and have some suggestions as to what signs to carry.

It's time to celebrate. There'll be a cake. And we'll have some fun...
...and get some good press, and remind the legislators that we've got other issues that need to be addressed.

The event coordinators will likely be familiar to many of you, but all of them will be easily identifiable -- they'll be wearing GREEN armbands, as in "the MCPPA has given a green light to fundamental, individual rights." If you've any questions, or need any assistance, please go to one of them.

A few notes:

1. If you're going to carry at the Capitol, you must have a current Minnesota carry permit AND have given notice to the Commissioner of Public Safety in advance. Please either do that in the next week or two, or skip carrying.

2. If you're going to carry, please do so discreetly. While Minnesota law doesn't distinguish between open and concealed carry, common sense usually does, and we want the pictures to be of the crowd, not of one or two people visibly carrying.

3. A counterdemonstration is a possibility. If that happens, it's important that we outnumber the antis, and act with exquisite courtesy. Rebecca Thoman and her gang would purely love to create an "incident" -- and they've tried to in the past. Don't let them.

4. Remember, we're going to be on TV, so dress nicely. If you've got a suit or nice spring dress (women only, please!), wear it. Otherwise, "business casual."

Any questions? My contact information is below, and there will be updates on my livejournal, and more here.

I hope all of the Minnesota THR folks can make it -- this is a very important event.

Imagine how it could look if the antis summon their usual dozen or so protestors and we have three or four hundred neatly dressed, polite "law-abiding citizens!"

Please tell me that you will come and drag the wife/husband/special someone, kids, and all of your gunny friends.

Here's a draft of a flyer that I'll be getting hung around town. Please contact me if you can help with distribution.
