We finally got CCW in Ohio. The only way to carry your firearm accessibly in a vehicle is "on your person, in plain sight " . "In plain sight" has yet to be defined by the attorney general.

So I came up with the idea of buying a cheap Uncle Mike's holster and attaching it to my right thigh with an elastic/velcro band. With the gun placed on the top of my thigh I will have ready access while still being within the law as it presently reads.

Not sure how other states have the transporting arms sections set up in their CCW law, but I think this method is better than most. It sure beats a holster on the belt and it doesn't advertise your firearm to passing motorists like a shoulder holster would, in my opinion.

Feedback??

Sounds OK, but if you get pulled over, be sure to put your hands on the top of the steering wheel and leave them there. You do not want to make the police nervous.

I think the normal law about the gun being visible will not be the case if you have a valid CCW? Around here you can have weapons in your car, loaded or unloaded, but if you go into North LV or Boulder City they're not allowed. However, if you have a CCW your gun is legal and is not covered under the normal law. May be the same type of case in Ohio.

Seriously wondering here

Has anybody said anything about concealed carry on a motorcycle yet? That qualifies as a vehicle, but you are not "in" it. Open carry only on a bike? Not that I mind detouring through Indiana everytime I ride South all that much but I'd sure like sure like to know the answer to that.

Ryder, my CC instructor asked the same question and was told to open carry (not a good idea) or put it in a saddle bag.

CCW

Arizona is free! loaded hogleg under the seat is not concealed-it's your car, your property. Is your gun in your nightstand concealed ? Open carry is legal except bars and polling places. I won't ride a motorcycle anymore without my Glock showing. ( nobody says "I didn't see him", they say "strapped biker, don't cut him off".)

Thank you Pheonix. I very much appreciate the comeback on that.

I don't mind open carry. I avoid big cities like the plague when possible and I will just use gas station restrooms instead of rest areas (I hear those are off limits). Accustoming all the little kiddies who wave at me on the highway to the sight of a firearm should have a beneficial effect in the long run. They won't grow up fearing the unknown.

As for being stopped by the cops to have my papers examined. I have a hard time finding any excuse to stretch my legs on a long ride as unwelcome. :D

If you got pulled over, I'd be worried the officer couldn't easily see it while approaching the vehicle. This may be construed in such a way that he could say it was not in plain sight.

The only solution is to duct tape the gun to your head.

Be careful not to cover your eyes if you are planning to drive.

HAHAHA! That reminds me of a trip I took to Arizona a few years back. I was riding a Kawasaki GPZ550. I was watching cross traffic while stopped at a light at a big intersection in Tucson, and saw a guy on a low rider Harley with a BIG hawgleg strapped to his waist. Being from California, and not realizing AZ is an open carry state, I thought "Damn that IS an outlaw biker :what:

When I got to Denny's and saw half the customers carrying, I realized what was up. (I had a J frame Smith in the pocket of my leather jacket.)

The law for CCW in a vehicle in Ohio based on the new law is one of 3 options:

1) Locked in the glove box.
2) locked in the trunk or if in the cabin with you and not on your person it must be in a locked box and the box must be in plain sight.
3) On your person, in plain sight.

Another thing to note is that if you get pulled over by a police officer for any reason, you cannot exit the vehicle unless instructed, you cannot touch or try to touch your firearm. Doing so is a FELONY.

So unless the law is tweaked in the future, belly bands, thunderwear, and smal of back carry is out in the car.

Again I congratulate you folks in OH. I understand some fine tuning may be needed , or amending to clarify some regulations.

I can understand the "locked in the trunk". I have a problem with a locked box in plain site.

Once upon a time delivery folks used to use locked boxes bolted to floorboards and such for cash , checks and CC reciepts. BGs just took to looking for these and busting into them. Say while in a Diner, Service Station restroom...whatever. Follow a driver around and wait for the vehicle to stop.

Just thought a suggestion might need to be addressed in not having "curious items" in plain site.
I mean a purse, briefcase, dayplanner, backpack attracts attention...a lock box screams valuables to me.

No I have not read your Reg's. I do have AR res and a Non- Res FL "permisson papers" though.
