What I am curious to know... is when your driving. Do you remove your firearm, leave it holstered on you, or remove holster? Do you do it before you get in your vehicle or after?
If you remove the gun from you. Either in holster or bare firearm, where are you putting it while you drive?

I also realize each state is different on what it allows. In Texas if you have your LTC you can keep it concealed on your person, or if in plain view must be in a shoulder or belt type holster. If a thigh holster is also connected to your belt, then it’s considered a belt. If it isn’t the it doesn’t count. If you don’t have your LTC, you must conceal it somewhere in the vehicle, but not on your person.

For me... I don’t remove my ankle gun if I am wearing it. The gun on my belt, or even Belt leg holster Both get removed. I have a mounted holster on my door and my center console, which has quick easy access, but is also covered in a way to NOT be in plain view. They both allow for a quick fast easy draw. I always remove the gun inside the vehicle.

In my state it doesnt matter as long as you have a CCL.

As far as what I do?
I usually carry a Shield or a Makarov, both of which fit perfectly in my armrest compartment along with several magazines and more if I want to. Usually I employ this method, and I can open the compartment and pull it out one handed while driving with ease (if I had to). Being that these guns are both very compact, i sometimes leave it in the holster, but usually the first method is what I do. Seatbelts are a real obstacle to drawing when holstered....yet if I had to jump out and run at least it would be on me. Ive mulled over which is more likely but its hard to say.

Another reason I leave it holstered sometimes is because if I have my hyperactive 11 year old with me I'd rather he just not see it and ask or talk about it.

Another case is when I get the mail and need to disarm to go in the Post Office. Then I usually put it under the seat instead because I can do it more discreetly. I run into a similar problem if I park somewhere and want to re-arm myself, but there's a car next to me with someone in it. Same goes for arming or disarming in that case. I dont want people to know there's a gun in my unattended vehicle. Discipline is something which has to go with being an armed citizen. I am willing to go the mile (literally!) to be discreet, safe and legal.

When I enter the car I unholster my pistol, and place it in a pocket holster that properly secured between the drivers seat and the console. It makes the seatbelt a non issue and the gun rapidly accessible. In PA my LTCF allows me to have the pistol in the passenger area of a car, which is not allowed without a LTCF.

Stays on my hip right where I put it. The only time it comes out is I have to go into some place like the Court House where it is a federal offense.

In Texas ... If you don’t have your LTC, you must conceal it somewhere in the vehicle, but not on your person.

I think you need to do more research, Chef.

(a-1) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun in a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control at any time in which:

(1) the handgun is in plain view, unless the person is licensed to carry a handgun under Subchapter H, Chapter 411, Government Code, and the handgun is carried in a shoulder or belt holster; or

(2) the person is:

(A) engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic or boating;

(B) prohibited by law from possessing a firearm; or

(C) a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01.

So if it’s on your person, and not in plain view, and you aren’t A, B, or C, you are fine.
